Rebel 300 will not respond to battery

Got my Rebel 300 out today after not using it for awhile and it will not respond to the battery when I installed it. It is just dead. I checked my batteries and they work fine in my other camera so it is not a problem with the batteries. Any body else have this probles ever? What could I look for that could be the problem?
 
I vaguely remember that some people had problems with the
battery door. That is, that battery door may not fully close and
seat correctly. This then led to the dead camera problem.
