HELP! Lost ability to Change my exposure mode

HELP! I just got my Coolpix 990 the other day. I was able to get it into Aperture/Shutter/Manual Priority mode when I got it but now when I hold the "mode" button and spin the "control dial", all that happens is it controls the manual focusing distance instead of changing the exposure modes? Has anyone else had this problem? Can I reload the Coolpix 990 program from the Nikon website??? Any help with this major problem I'm having would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!!! )
