Well, I've had my C-700 for about 3 weeks now and I love it. My only complaint would be chromatic aberrations. I really wish they were not so evident. I take most of my photos outside and I notice it on many of the photos. I am experimenting with settings to lessen it but the settings do tend to darken the image. Even with this issue I still think that I made the right choice. Maybe in a few years I will upgrade.

Well I haven't had that many instances of and I take most of mine outside as well. Are you using the P setting on yours or what? I don't pretend to know anything about it yet because I have only had mine three weeks as well. Daniella seems to be the reigning expert on the C-700. I'll bet that she'll post soon. She is very knowledgeable about photography in general and the c-700.

I hope you enjoy your camera as much as I'm enjoying mine. I toyed with the idea of returning it and getting a C-2100 but I just love the SIZE of mine.

I use the P settings and Daniella was a good source for info about how to set it up. Most of my photos are of trees and landscapes. These imadges seem to be worse than others because you are shooting thru branches. I don't like the 2100 because of the size. When I bought my C700 the 2100 was the same price. I like the additional features and the size. I think my issues are just something I will need to learn how to control.

Hi Bill,

Can you post some samples? it would be easier to see if there is something out of normal.

I did not snow photos recently at Sequoias and i was afraid of getting too much CA because of the very harsh contrast between the branches and the snow but it was very little, not even noticeable once rescaled at 900 pixels and only one some photo.

When shooting high contrast scenes, I suggest you use aperture priority. Adjust the aperture to under expose just a little. This will minimize the CA.

I have heard of many that have returned the C-700 for the C-2100UZ. I have not used the C-700 but I can tell you that the C-2100UZ is AWESOME!!!

This can help as well, but I typically see the aperture to be the best way to reduce CA. Of course you have to make sure the shutter speed is still fast enough to prevent motion blur.
In another thread, posters said ev compensation -.3 or -.7 works
great to minimize ca.

Let me see if I can upload some of the photos. I will post again when I get them up. Maybe tonight.
Thanks all!

Ken,

I am sure that the 2100 is a great camera. It's just too big for me. I do quite a bit of hiking to get my photos and I don't need any more stuff to carry. The size of the C700 suits me fine. If it were not for the zoom I would have opted for the 3040 which I could have purchased for about the same price.
I am happy that the 2100 suits your needs though.
Thanks,
Bill

I've been able to setup my some of my phots on Pbase. You can see examples of the CA on the photos in the Trees gallery. Looking forward to some pointers.
Thanks,

Bill,

If for nothing else but ridding your pics of CA. you should get a decent photo editor that you feel comfortable with. (I use Adobe PS Elements) That has a decent color selectable desaturation plug-in & or a tool such as the sponge tool in Elements for desaturating & along with levels adjustability to compensate for ev adjustments you make in the camera. And get used to the Idea of desaturating the high contrasting edges in your pics..We're still several years away from dynamic range improvement of Digital consumer level cameras that no longer suffer from Blooming/CA...If there's no magenta in a given scene the desaturation of the Magenta channel is usually good enough....unfortunately when the CA is green which can rarely be fully desaturated out of a pic without serious color damage the sponge tool or similar tool set at 75% desaturation and run along the edges usually does the trick...For me anyway...Good luck!

Bill,

You do have a point about the size of the 2100. I take mine on hikes for birding and it is a bit cumbersome. Like I said, I do not know about the other models but if the added size is not a problem, the 2100 is nice.

All I can see is one tree and only in the medium size.

I didn't read this whole thread, so forgive me if this has already been said, but there's a nifty little photo editing program called Photo Brush that does a wonderful job of removing CA. There's a 30 free trial on the program, and then it's only $38 to purchase it. It's a small program--great for laptops--and loads and runs really fast in comparison to PhotoShop and other programs. It has many unique effects and filters. There are several filters which mimic infra red and various colored filters, a tool that will allow the user to paint part of an image black and white and you can even sharpen the parts of a photo you choose, not the entire image. I'm not affiliated with the company in any way, but just wanted to share a really nice program with everyone. Maria--C-2-100uz

The C700 is AWESOME too, and does not suffer from major problem like SDS and problem reading memory cards after inserting it or vigneting and what else...
I have heard of many that have returned the C-700 for the C-2100UZ.

I just got a Tcon14 1.45x teleconver, its pretty good and you may want to try it. its cheap..and sharp and clear all the way to the edge. this give you 15x zoom. equivalent of near 600mm i think.

yes the aperture is more efficient i think as well, because it seam. I have tried this with the bad Kenko lens and i could hardly see the CA after that. but its not always convenient to use F8 aperture. fortunatly the c700 is not so bad for CA...i have seen worse in other cameras like the G1.

That seam like a lot, and exposure compensation will surely help because the sky is totally whased out. I would try using F8 or F6 that will surely help.

I have not had so much CA in my snow photo, but i was using -3 or -7 and the photos turned out great. You can try some test to see what work best for you.

there seam to be only in gray branches, probably they are very contrasting over the overcast white sky. This would be easy to remove because the gray branches will not suffer from a color desaturation from the magenta channel.

BTW...the C700 is suppose to be shipped with Photoshop Element..do you have it? if you bought your C700 after october 1, you can call Olympus if you don't have Photoshop and they will ship it to you for free.

They told me they did not had Element anymore but they will ship me Photoshop LE which they say is about the same thing..i will see when i'll receive it.

Photoshop LE should have the option for desaturating the color channel separatly...so if you have it you can use it.
