Went to my parents' yesterday in Nampa. We knew this steam engine was there so drove to see it. I ended out walking up the overpass to get a photo. This one is cropped. Taken with the E300, 14-54

Took this one through the fence.

And speakikng of fence, here is a pic of Mom and Dad's dog Samantha being a snot and ignoring Reggie, her neighbor. He just wanted to play, which usually they do.

Reggie was trying so hard to get her attention.

I agree with Sharon, that last one should go to photographyvoice for a POTD.

BTW, when are you going to be in Portland in June? It would be fun to meet you in the Rose Garden or something like that.

I showed this to my husband, who is interested in steam engines. He saw this engine about 2 weeks ago on the line between Portland and Seattle. He searched the web for other photos, your first one from the overpass is better than any of the others we saw!

Judy,

Glad you got some nice pics of the steam train.

My dad went to Everett, Washington last weekend to take some pics of the same train. Got there @ 11:00 am. The train was supposed to be there at noon for 2 hours. Finally arrived @ 2:00 and stopped for 45 SECONDS! He was pretty disappointed....

Love the dog pic!

Thanks for sharing....

I wish I'd found out when it left Nampa, then I would have waited for it to come by here. Would have gotten a shot of it chugging along.

Samantha is a big stinker. She rules the place! Reggie has only lived there a few weeks, but they do run along the fence together. Just won't do it when we are watching.

for me they bring back bad memories. A few years ago my wife and I had tickets for an excursion ride on this train. Due to some freight train scheduling screw-ups, Union Pacific cancelled the trip because of a big traffic jam in their freight yards and on the route we were supposed to travel. So, we never got to travel behind old locomotive 844, which is the last steam locomotive that Union Pacific purchased before transitioning to all diesel equipment.

But I like your dog photos, so they make up for the bad-memory train pictures :-)

Did you have to buy the tickets to
ride, and if so did they refund the money? I would love to ride
along behind it, or even ride in an old passenger train. Have great
memories riding trains.
Yes, we had to pay for tickets, and yes they did refund our money.

Here's a link to UP's website for their 2007 steam train excursion schedule. Most of the trips aren't open to the public, but there are a couple of trips listed that are. Of course the scheduled trip through Wichita, KS where I live isn't one of the those open to the public. Foiled once again! And I was almost over being mad at Union Pacific.
