Alfred, this is a wonderfully seductive subject, but I agree that it could use better lighting. Can I tell you how to do that? No way! Maybe someone can though.

Alfred, if you hadn't told that it was a stairway, at least the
first and third would have fooled me!! Very unusual, and your
shots give that optical illusion feature. Very nice.

Hi, I like the 1319877.jpg the most, and as many suggested, they may need more light...

Photoshop 6:
  • Level
  • Contrast +5
  • Noise Remove
  • Resize
  • Edge Sharpen
  • Save JPEG Quality=8
Regards,
Tony

Where do I find "resize" and "edge sharpen"?

Very nicely done photos. I really like #2 in your orginal post. Think about this concept: Flip the photo horizontally so that the skylight is on the right. Reason: We read left to right and the skylight is the most dominant area of the photo, therefore by moving it to the right of the shot, the "read" of the photo would feel more natural. Also, try desaturating your shots or convert to grayscale. Patterns such as the stairway (imho) always look so much better in a monochrome. If you prefer to leave them in color, I think the darkness is just fine. Maybe just a little adjustment on the color values.

You have 3 jewels there. Try various filters, etc with them and see what you can come up with.

Hi Alfred,

I like the images and think you did a great job of modifying them and adding more light and just the right amount of contrast.

Would you correct it in photoshop (add light?)?

Alfred
Hello Alfred,

You can at least look at it to decide if you like it. Keep in mind that you are the one who has to be satisfied.

These are very interesting photos, the first three in particular have an 'escher-like' quality IMO. I found myself staring for a few moments before I completely understood what I was seeing. Good work!

Unfortunately Alfred, critics in competition and shows will always site "readability" first. I can't tell you how many wonderful shots I've "flipped" in order to avoid getting bumped from the top 5. Even Monet had to paint to the critic's preferences. (check out his work. Most is off-center right) If you think about it, it does kind of make sense, though.

Thank you RT, going to try this too. But would a left hand look
from right to left?

Regards

Alfred
