Sorry if I offend anyone posting this in the STF but I thought it would be OK because I used my AWESOME 707 to take the picture!!

Anyhow......this is what I did.................

Hi there :)

Finished printing an AWESOME 47 3/4" by 36 1/2" photo using my new Canon S9000 printer!

I used a digital image taken with my Sony 707 camera. The original image was 2560x1920 with a file size of 1.34mb. I used Photo Shop to increase it's size to 17x22 and 300dpi with bicubic resampling. This produced a file size of 16.8mb.

I used PhotoShop to print it and in the Canon printer driver I set "Photo Glossy Paper", "Page Size" of 17x22 (scaled print), "Printer Paper Size" of 13x19. "Printing Type" of poster printing, and specified 9 (3x3) sheets.

This printed out 9 sheets of 13x19 photo paper with cut and paste info on each of the 9 pages. 57 x 39"of paper with a printed photo of 47 3/4 x 36 1/2 inches !!

I "carefully" cut the sheets and used 1/4" clear tape to stitch them together. I then taped this large image on my wall. I went to Home Depot and bought molding and put molding up and across each seem and framed this with larger molding producing what appears to be a 9 paneled window with my scenic picture. The nailed molding holds the prints snug to the wall.

Now you will just have to trust me on this one but I promise you, when you walk into that room, you truly believe you are looking out a window. Everyone that has seen this is blown away by it's realizm!!

The quality of the picture is truly amazing, both due to the camera AND the printer. NOT cheap :) but lots of fun!!

It will also let you use 16 sheets of 13x19 paper but I chose not to risk that project the first time :):) Maybe sometime soon though lol.

If you don't mind me asking where did you buy your s9000? and how much did you have to pay?. I have been thing of buying on.

Whoops!!

Looks like I just cross-posted a link to your other post in the Printer forum. Heheheh... I was impressed by the job you'd done.

I guess it doesn't hurt to ask again: Could you post for us a pic of what your wall now looks like? I'd be interested in seeing the beautiful results of your work. -- Ulysses

This is a great idea that's been kicked around before. Has anyone done this with 8x10 for us poor people with smaller printers? What would the calculations be for doing it on 8x10 glossy?

thanks in advance.

Hi! JimB.

I went in the Help section of my Epson 785 and checked for poster prints. The capability is there. I want to get some Tiff shots and try it on a smaller scale. I'll print out what Lenny wrote and use it as a guide when the time comes. I really want to do this after I go to the mountains this summer!

Thanks Lenny!! Never knew I could do posters on my 785. Just did a 4 pager off of one of my 707 shots and it looks great. My buddy with the new truck is going to love his 16x19 print. I suspect that cameras and printers have so many features that few ever push each and every feature. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.--Jon

Hey leeny, why don't you take your AWESOME SONY F707 to take a picture of that gigantic Wallpaper ? Post it into the forum and we'll comment !

If you use Microsoft Picture It 2001 , it will set up a poster for you, any size you want, just put in how many pages high and wide you want. and will print the cut lines too. I have played with it some , but never got serious about it though, might try it,

Hey Jon, I played with it today with my 785 and got mixed results. What I really really want to do is to use photoshop with the epson printer driver's poster feature along with my 8x10 borderless paper. The ideal would be edge to edge, 4 squares, so we can just push the pages together and be done. But it doesn't let me to that. When the printer driver has 'borderless' check boxed, the poster option is grayed out!!! So I'm forced in photoshop to get a poster printout with half inch white borders around my edges. That sux because I don't want to cut the paper up and try to line everything up.

Next I tried QImage Pro. It has the same feature. Load the image, tell the printer driver, borderless, and it will spool 4 pages, seem too good to be true. It was, sigh :( It didn't work also. I ended up with 4 perfect sqaures but they were not even close to lined up. Apparently QImage didn't expect the epson driver to play games with the sizing to get 'borderless' print.

If you find a way to get this working please post,

good luck.

What software did you use to print and what were the settings, type of paper, was it borderless? or did you have to cut out the white borders between the inside edges of the photo?

Also was the image cropped before printing? or was it straight out of the 707?

thanks!

I tried to do it like Lenny- PS6, 300dpi, and a little bigger than the paper. Then I went to print setup and set photo glossy. Went into layout and picked the 4 page poster. I just went in and played with the process. If you don't resize it will print the center of the shot. I used print preview to look at that. The one I did earlier was the cab and part of the bed of the truck. That was covered by the original size of the shot right out of the 707. When I resized I should have taken the selection out. Then I would have gotten the entire truck that was in the original shot. I was still pleased with the resulting print. Haven't found a way to make it borderless yet. I cut the white borders, flipped it over, tacked it with tape and then used good tape to go down the seams. My wife had the idea to go to Office Max and get it laminated.

I just went into SuperJpeg from Midnightblue.com which I use to look at thumbnails. It seems that no matter what program you use as long as you change the setup you can do a poster. Did it with the 4 page setup. Tried the same picture with 16 sheet poster. Be sure and check Preview. It gave me the first sheet in the Preview window and a secondary window showing all 16 sheets. Once I see the preview I cancel the printing. The beauty of digital is the no cost feature when all you do is look at it on the screen. I've done the truck and people pics but can see how a scenic picture would be great with the molding.

thanks for the follow up, I'm just going to have to get a better paper cutter. Mine stinks. I'm also going to try the idea of taking 4 shots in the 707. That would be ideal. I'll put the 4 pics in photoshop side by side and just crop them 8x10 and match them up so I could get borderless. The trick will be seeing if I can hold the camera just right and overlap each scene. I know with a tripod should be a piece of cake for 1st two left sides because I can just hand crank the pod up or down. For the right side will have to pick up the pod and move it over trying to stay level. should be a fun experiment.

C'mon Lenny, Please, oh please, oh please.

Using a lattice-work of mouldings to cover up the seams and give it a thru-the-window look-- that's a bit of genius. I'm dying to see it. Please just snap a picture of it and post it. Please, oh please, oh please.
