TZ3 - Screen Protector Necessary?

I don't suppose anyone knows where to get the Giottos or Boxwave in Toronto Canada (online or b&m) do they? Just wondering since I got the normal 3 inch Giottos lcd protectors but it leaves air bubbles and thus generally looks ugly though as someone mentioned once the screen is on you don't really see the bubbles.

By Giottos I mean the ones Urbanito mentioned...

Does the Giottos cover the whole back (or most of) the TZ3 LCD screen?

I also have the Giottos screen saver from B&H. Excellent product
From what I have seen of Pana LCD's, sunlight directly on the
screen is not the major problem. The worst situation seems to be
when you are shooting into sun and wearing bright clothing which is
picked up by the LCD surface as glare/reflection, and at the same
time the eye pupils close down because you are staring into sun.
Challenging, to say the least, which is why some makers still
provide an OVF.

Does the Giotto solve this problem?

Just 24hrs ago I was sure I would not buy TZ3 because of this
particular problem. Now if the Giotto really makes a big difference
maybe I should reconsider.

I have not used cam. that much in the bright sun yet to give you an accurate answer. But the little bit I have used it,it seems to help. If you go on B&H website they give a good discription as to what it does

I just went outside and pointed tz3 at the sun with giottos protector on it. I only saw a slight reflection but not enough to block vision of subject.

The so-called 3-inch one for the TZ3 are actual stated measurement of 65.95 x 49.3mm That seems very very close to the slightly raised LCD cover but if you've got a decent ruler, check the measurements with your screen back.

Hmm...doing a quick measuring with the tz3 lcd, it seems that the Giottos fills pretty much the whole lcd screen...though it may stick out a tiny bit on those rounded edges of the lcd screen.

The Giotto screen is rounded corners according to the illustration on their site.

Does not cover 100% but close enough. If you line it up on the lcd there is a little under 1/8" on the right not covered, that is because lcd is made a bit off center. But you can center if you want leaving 1/16" on each side. Top and bottom is ok

Urbanito, that item looks great. A thin sliver of Schott glass... Brilliant. Might just go and pick one up...

Yeah, in hindsight I goofed by ordering a generic 3 inch screen protector... Oh well. Now I have something to trim down and use on my mobile phone...

Thanks :)

Sunlight is not really a problem. Use the LCD Mode button to turn Power LCD on. This makes the screen quite usable even in direct sunlight.

My concern is more with scratches. Unfortunately all the protectors I've tried just make the sunlight problem worse.

On my Canon S80, I tried three different protectors:

Boxwave Clear Touch (anti-glare) - one for $15.45 with shipping - http://boxwave.com/products/cleartouch/index.htm

Screen Armor from Control Vision Corp. - two for $19.95 postpaid - http://www.anywheremap.com/detail.aspx?ID=147

Fellowes WriteRight - 12 for $19.95 + tax from my local CompUSA: http://www.compusa.com/ ... ...=311393&Pn=WriteRight_Universal_Screen_Overlays

The Fellowes was the best of the three in reducing glare, and the cheapest. However, none was nearly as good as the S80's unprotected anti-glare coating.

The TZ3 has a totally different surface, so the outcome might be different. Before I replaced my last Fellowes sheet on the TZ3, I cut it in half and compared. The unprotected TZ3 screen was much more visible in sunlight.

Has anyone tried covering just half the screen with another protector, and comparing in sunlight?

Direct sunlight is OK. Hows about when you shoot into sun and the LCD is not actually in direct sunlight? This is when reflection and glare seems to be at its worst, the LCD acting like a mirror.

Attach the wrist loop to something like belt, lanyard, d-ring,etc. when on a boat or high places...anywhere like that. For normal use like errands or day hikes it's very handy and seems to work just fine for me.

Surely the TZ3 has an integral protector. My old Canon A85's cost $8 to replace (and about 15 minutes to figure out how to peel off the old one).

I just got my shipment from Boxwave, and the ClearTouch they sent me is almost exactly 1.5" by 2" in size. The Lumix DMC-TZ3 screen is 2.75" by 2", so they're a long way off. The code on the packet says BWCT-DC9548.

Is that what i should expect? I asked Boxwave if BWCT-DC9548 was the right code for the TZ3, and they say yes.

I don't have mine with me but it was very close to the size of the screen. I'll check the number tonight when I get home. I went ahead and bought 2 of them.

I got a box 15 Quantary LCD protectors for $8 from a local camera shop. Each one is more then big enough to make into two TZ3 protectors. They're surely not as 'trick' as some of those others mentioned, but they seem to work just fine for protection, since I often like to carry this little gem in my pants or shorts pocket, out of the small belt-loop bag.
