I predict ...

Thanks rayk.

Reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled.

Given what I have seen first hand with the e-410 at high ISO's, I predict your prediciton to be wrong :-)

switch does not (apparently) affect the RAW file, but Studio honours the setting.

Raist3d disagrees, but as far as I can tell the NR done in RAW is non destructive amp noise removal, there is no pattern removal.

I can't really post anything mea ningful becuase my website is flash based. I am sure about the e-330 and noise reduction - there is something going on at a system level to process the files before the user can access them - it gives the files a smudged quality when pixel peeping. I noticed a similar thing with the Panasonic lx-1 compact that I used when I took my nephews on holiday.

The e-410 has excellent detail and the noise is very classy! You just need to get used to holding the lens rather than the camera - if you can get used to this you will shy away from big heavy cameras in future!

most useful. I have seen some samples, but it is nice to have them from someone with whose skills I am familiar. On first look, they are more or less the same as the E330, which is a relief, but I'll play some more...

Thanks Ray. You have been really helpful with all the samples, Oly should be grateful to you !

BTW, I really don't understand why all the talk of noise in E-410 after so many unprocessed low light/high ISO samples have been posted on the net, from users like you & cjeng as well as some reviewers. google search can find many more.

Sure, some of the bodies have underexposure issues, and the noise probably a hair behind 400D, but waaaay better than anything I have seen from any other Oly E body. That noise filter option is good for experienced users to play with though on high settings it can smear some details (as expected). Anything over 400 was totally unusable for my taste before E-x10 (without PP of course).

I found out last weekend that single handed operation isn't as comfortable as my C-5060 (probably because the lens is bigger than 5060's), otherwise I just couldn't complaint about anything. Since when being small is a negative in an entry level camera (for those who find it too 'small').

in 20 years when noise is abolished (and every camera has the same IQ) there will be those of us that will look back with fondness at the dynamic images that noise produced in the old cameras.

I predict Ga will buy every E cam ever made regardless of anything!
You may jest .... but the problem is that nearly all the cameras have some strengths that the others don't. Its like the ideal camera bag - it simply doesn't exist! you need a range of them and pick the right one for each situation!!

Oh I fully agree. I'd like me a E510 for event jobs (I know, can you believe they keep hiring me!)

Truth is I NEED a second body no matter what. 510 will be it.

I also want a SIGMA DP-1

I'm no different! I'm just poor.....

Just a comment to agree with your opinion about the BS nature of negative comments. I'm new here, new to dslr's, and new to my e-500 which I really like. Before purchasing I read reviews and comparisons. I was blown away by the made up IMO negatives about the e-500 compared to offerings by Nikon and Canon. One of the big negatives was the long start up time during sensor cleaning. Maybe it's me but the second or so it takes doesn't make a bit of difference to me especially given it is doing something that the others can't do.In comparison reviews this was given so much weight that it was knocked down a notch or two. The other was the need to go through several menus to change settings. I had already read enough about using the camera to know that this is not the case. You can access things through menus, but for 99.9% of the adjustments made on the fly while shooting you can access them through faster and more direct methods. I got the impression the the person writing the comparison(who more than likely owns either Nikon or Canon) was grasping at straws to find negative things to write about the E-500 which convinced me even more to buy it and as I said I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I would expect the same tack to be taken by the critics of the E-510
