I live in the U.K. bought my 990 yesterday and here is the result of my first test shots. I am an absolute beginner - and I hope you think that if I can achieve this with the 990 - then what on earth is everyone moaning about. It is absolutely fantastic. What do you think?

I think the camera did a truly great job, and so did you. Very nice composition, it seems to me, surely not just beginner's luck. I do believe she's got it!

Anne,

it's a beautiful picture. Nice job!! How close did you get with that macro shot?

I look forward to getting my 990 soon...have fun with yours!!

Hi Randal - I set the camera on mid range zoom macro and held it approx. 2" away from the flower. Honestly this was the first use of the camera, I just popped in the 16mg card and took some close ups of flowers in the garden. It really is that simple. Hope you get your 990 soon.

Some people will moan about ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING... rather than go out and learn how to take pictures!

Rex,

How can I post a pictures here? I am waiting for my Nikon CoolPix 990, and I would like to post some pictures here. I have tried to just copy and paste, but I can never get it to work. I realize that the images must be 640 pixels wide. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance,
Ginkgo8

Ginkgo8,

Picture doesn't have to be 640 pixels wide, although it is considerate to keep them no bigger than that.

Here's what you do.

1. Upload your picture to a web site. There are quite a few, all free. I use http://www.zing.com . Lots of people use http://www.photopoint.com . For web use you should use jpeg compression so that the file is not more than maybe 60-70k. Make sure your album is publicly accessible - no password.

2. When your picture is there on the photo site, click on it or whatever until you have the whole picture displayed and your browzer shows an URL. The URL needs to end in .jpg.

3. Copy the whole URL into your post, on its own line.

There you are!
Hope this helps,
Coly

P.S. Sometimes it's better to just give an URL for your album; too many large embedded pictures make for slow loading of threads.

Ginkgo8, in order to post a photo, you need a link (somewhere on the net, a server or a photoclub) where you photo is stored, then you go to that photo and copy or type the link at the top of you browser or the you just paste the link. I hope this is clear enough, I had trouble post photo's at the beginning too.

Everybody can take GREAT macro shots with the 950/990. Just find a willing flower, caterpillar, bolt, dime, watch, spark, raindrop, fly, dog's eye, cat's tail, fingernail, whatever it has ALL been done before.

Where is that unique, artistic, one in a million shot?

Nice shot but nothing more than ordinary!

happy shooting

Hi Miguel, the camera has just come into the UK and one of the dealers who telephoned me was Photofactory on 01224-575111 - they have them in stock now. Jessops also have them in stock on back orders (which mine was) but there should be some more coming through now in most Nikon associated retailers. Happy snapping. Regards Ann

Ann said she was a beginner. Give her a break. Let's see your unique, artistic, one in a million shot.

I use http://www.photopoint.com and on that web site you post like this: Go to your gallery my logging in like a regular user. Then go to the album where your picture is. You should see the picture with the caption. Click on the picture again and you will see the picture with no caption. Right click on the address and click on copy. Then come back here to your message and right click somewhere on your message and click on paste. You should get something like this http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=86246&a=630460&p=13005025&Sequence=1 You will notice that it ends in Sequence=1. Just add .jpg to the end of the whole thing so it ends like this Sequence=1.jpg and that is all there is to it. No lets see if it works.
