RAW files processed through Lightroom & CS3...

Photos were taken in harsh lighting conditions so I utilized a 12" diffuser disc to soften the light. Fisheye photos were taken through the Raynox DCR-FE180PRO lens with one flash of the Canon MT-24EX twin macro light setup on a Wimberly macro bracket on one side. I handheld the other flash to direct light from the top into the flower. It's tough to explain so here's a pic of the setup & note that the fisheye pics were the only pics taken with flash due to the lens being right up against the flower...

The Pro1 was mounted on a tripod for all of these shots with the exception of the Clematus. I used a Bogen Super-clamp attached to the top of a step ladder with a ballhead attached for that photo because the Clematus was at the top of a trellis on a hill. Using a step-ladder on a side-hill is always fun, LoL, but I got the pic.

Thanx for looking & comments appreciated!

What can I say but...WOWSERS Johnny.

When I first started scrolling down the shots I got more and more depressed :( I figured it would take me another 20 years to get shots like that!

However I cheered up when I realized that they weren't simply hand-held, grab and go shots :) What a freakn' set-up you have there with the Pro1. Looks super.

Love all the flower shots....great time of year for them too! Thanks for giving me something to shoot for (no pun intended...well...maybe a little ;-)

Beautiful Tall Bearded Iris images!

We have been photographing tall bearded irises in our Flagstaff garden for the past 6 years, first with a Canon Pro90IS, then with a Panasonic FZ10 and most recently with a Canon 20D. If you are interested, you can see images of some 60 varieties at http://www.IMAGESbyABLES.com . Just enter the site and click on Tall Bearded Irises.

Thanks for posting these beautiful images.

Wow John,

You nailed these irises and clematus right on the colors and detail.

A pro set up from my usual handheld shots :)

Nice to see what a Pro1 can do at macros.
Thanks for sharing.

What is that white long thingy ?

As long as you don't fall over ;)

(I think I get a kick out of your set ups than the actual picture you took --- j/k :) )

Just wondering if the colours were accurate. As you know, the compacts have trouble recording accurate purples. Usually one has to play with the exposure compensation and reduce the amount of light by using -2/3.

The Pro1 does a great job with macro and flowers.

Nice work.

Excellent examples of what the Pro-1 is capable of, in the right hands. I'm really impressed with your set-up and pictures.

Gotta love the Pro-1! I'm taking mine to the Smokys this morning for a sunrise shoot! Great landscape camera!

Nah, I doubt that after seeing your zoo pics, they were very good!
However I cheered up when I realized that they weren't simply
hand-held, grab and go shots :)
Thanks again & don't forget your S3 is optimized for hand-held work with IS...
What a freakn' set-up you have

He-he, that's just the tip of the iceberg. I have so much camera junk I can't keep track of it... ;-)

Here's a link to a 2 page gallery showing some of my various setups that I use to get my shots...

OMG, you have a SPECTACULAR Iris garden!!!
The pictures are gorgeous.
Your trip galleries are very nice also, thanks for sharing them!

I saw you had some butterfly images in your galleries also, so if you have time here's a link to a butterfly gallery that I put together...

I'm using a Canon 300D & an XT for many of my images now, here's an Iris from the same day taken with the XT & Canon EFS 60mm macro, enjoy!

Thanks for posting these beautiful images.
YW & I'm glad you enjoyed them!

Your handheld shots are excellent & you don't have to waste time setting up equipment, LoL.
Nice to see what a Pro1 can do at macros.

YW & thanx for looking & taking the time to comment!
How do you like CS3?
I like it, it's very fast to start up & seems to run quicker than CS2 also.
I still have CS2 installed & there are no conflicts between the two.
What is that white long thingy ?
That's the clamp setup that holds the 12" diffuser that I was talking to you about. I bought some flexible Loc-Line & clamps & will try to copy this setup for a cheaper price. ;-)
Using a
step-ladder on a side-hill is always fun, LoL, but I got the pic.
As long as you don't fall over ;)
Ha-ha, yeah, I was thinking the same when I was attempting to get the picture, but I set up the camera then got down & used the remote.
(I think I get a kick out of your set ups than the actual picture
you took --- j/k :) )
LoL! You should see me trying to use the remote & hold the flash with the same hand! ;-)

Here's a couple more, one taken with your current favorite...the Canon 50mm/1.4 @2.8 & the other taken with the Canon EFS 60mm/2.8 macro @ 3.5...Enjoy!

Those are very impressive pictures. I would say, some of the best
I've ever seen. Please show us more.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Teri !

I do attempt to make impressive pictures but I am just an amateur with an expensive hobby, LoL! Seriously though, there is much better stuff being showcased on these boards than mine, IMHO...

I will try to put more pics up if time allows me to, very busy at work these days.

I have a few galleries here if you have time to take a look...

BTW, you have some gorgeous pics in your galleries, thanx for sharing them!

Hello Vince,
Just wondering if the colours were accurate. As you know, the
compacts have trouble recording accurate purples. Usually one has
to play with the exposure compensation and reduce the amount of
light by using -2/3.
I shoot in RAW format with AWB & do color correction later in Lightroom.

I take sample shots with a WhiBal gray card & use the tool in LR to set the WB to attain the correct color balance for the lighting conditions. Here's a screen capture that shows how this is done...

You are right though, I probably need to take more sample shots every time I shoot at a different angle because it appears that the light did change on some of the shots. I was shooting under glaring sunlight conditions using a small diffuser & also the differences in the angle & placement of the diffuser would change the light also. Too many variables, it's enough to drive you crazy! ;-)
The Pro1 does a great job with macro and flowers.

Nice work.
Thank you & I appreciate your checking them out & taking the time to comment.

Beautiful.

I do think Canon doesn't always have the accurate colors with blues and purples but you captured it and if the pp is applied, kudos to showing how it was seen. :)
Here's a couple more, one taken with your current favorite...the
Canon 50mm/1.4 @2.8 & the other taken with the Canon EFS 60mm/2.8

Thanks for explaining what you do re colour balance, etc.

If you look at the sample you showed with the grey card it seems the blue might be peaking a bit. If this occurs it might affect the total colour. I suppose if you picked one of those flowers to compare later you would know if the colours were right.

All my compact digital cameras have to use -2/3 (plus or minus 1) or the colours of purples and red are not even close. Or I get white areas in the images and lack of detail between petals on the flowers.

I guess the Pro1 is a better camera than many give it credit.
