Should I get a Mac Book Pro now?

8 Core, Quad core, blah di blah. Words chosen by advertising agents to impress you. it will be very little different from last years model. There was a time when computers were very slow and the chips got faste by the year. Now they have slowed down and are fast enough to run most applications quite fast enough. But these computer manufacturers hav e millions invested in their production and HAVE to sell us the consumer more models just for them to stay in business and keep their employees employed.

Take a step back. think hard before you are swept up in the race to own a latest model
Just think.

Thanks for the input guys. I know we can't keep up the the latest and greatest my only concern was WWDC is coming up and there might be a new one coming out. If the WWDC was 3 months or so then I would buy in instant. I guess it won't hurt to wait a bit.

Couldn't tell the refurb one I received form a "new" one except it comes in a plain brown box. Comes with the same warranty and you can purchase AppleCare on it within the first year if you want. I also bought a refurbished Airport Express and iPod Shuffle without any problems.

If you don't have to have the latest and greatest, it's the way to go IMHO.

Careful! This was the first symptom my Powerbook had before the harddrive eventually failed. BACKUP!
However today it did worry me a little as when I switched it on it
just stuck on the rotating wheel and didn't get to the desk top.
After ten minutes I held down the on/off button to close it down.
Then after ten minutes restart and it all worked ok but was a
little worrying.

I have the macbook pro. It is incredible. its never let me down ever! From schoolwork to games to photog editing and storage it has been amazing. My dad has the older version of it and has had it for 3 years. I expect mine to last thrugh college. Just make sure to get the applecare protection plan and youll be fine. I say get it now and enjoy it.

Well, I sidestepped the whole debate. I bought a refurb unit that was obsolete already. That way I didn't have to worry about it "becoming" obsolete. It already was. What a relief.

hey guys. thanks for the tips I just ordered a refurb MBP 17. I figured that I will save a lot if I get this one than wait for the new ones. I think the current power of the MBP vs the new ones coming out won't be a huge difference besides I'll have to pay more than 3K to get one with extended protection. Thanks again. can't wait for it to arrive :)

Oh, I hope that is not happening. I'm working here in Norway but every job gets backed up very quickly and we have a PC as well and keep cpies on each and on dvd. Plus we upload as soon as the retouching is done to our printer in the UK. The mac is still under gaurantee and i have world support.

I looked into a refurb in the UK but it seemed that by the time you upgraded it to the lates spec including RAM etc etc it worked out not a lot cheaper, so i just went for new one.
