this site is tainted by corporate greed

Now that amazon dot com owns this site, you can't really expect
objective views about any digital camera or any manufacturer's
equipment. I wou;d recommend moving on!

This is rubbish, through and through. Silly, sophomoric rubbish- as is most of the rest of the whining and naysaying.

Then consider this:

What is the issue here?

Credibility. That's it. You can buy anything on Amazon, from Amazon itself or the thousands of people like myself who sell things there. They don't have the time or interest in manipulating sales as has been suggested. Do they do that with all the millions of other things they sell? No. That is not the way they do business. They have a history of being concerned about the quality of "reviews."

They are looking for the credibility of this site to draw more people to their site. If they maintain that credibility, their customer base will be happy and more people will come to buy. They want to have a "Consumer Reports" type of image. In order to maintain that, they will have to be very careful or it will backfire.

Thus, it is in their interest to keep up the image of DPReview quality. If that were to be destroyed or seriously put in question, Amazon would take a huge hit- square in the light of public opinion. That would be a BAD thing.

It's funny how the people here take themselves and their conspiracy theories so seriously.
Sincerely,

Have you ever actually BEEN on "amazon dot com"?
Have you seen reader's review of products that "amazon dot com" is
selling?
Does "amazon dot com" censor anyone, remove bad reviews, or tell
them what to say?
I am an occasional customer of amazon dot com and more so of amazon dot de. I have posted 1 user review (the first one on the german site for the Canon BG-E3 vertical grip) - the process was so cumbersome and included 2 days delay until it was posted - as they told me, because every review is read&checked before being posted. Mine was quite positive anyway and eventually posted without changes (otherwise I would have withdrawn). Nevertheless, I know for a fact, that they at least reserve the right to censor any user review. Criteria for this censorship are not made public. I do not know how often user reviews are rejected or altered. But I am quite sure it happens, if a product review is openly critical or negative.

Due to this fact I never went back to piost another review there and never again will.

They HAVE to do this to maintain any level of quality. The cumbersome input weeds out the lowest level brainless post and run, and if you think letting drunk high school kids taking over your review section by posting 10 times a day is good, then find a place with less "censorship".

It's like Democracy doesn't give one the right to yell "Fire" in a crowded theater. Quality control does not equal censorship.

not.

any opinion should be evaluated before? yours included of course.

censorship is good and responsible
free speech is bad and dangerous

we all know that.

but this is a forum, by definition it doesn't work that way. first of all because if you or the owner start passing only the opinions you like this place will become really boring, second you'll take all the fun out of it and you'll end up talking to yourself.

by the way... are you one of us or related to the new owners?

this is still a free speech place until people like you will take over: so you will kindly answer

...that you charge money for your photos and accept advertising money from Google. Obviously you are driven by greed and thus we can expect you will try to minimize the amount of costly work you put into the pictures you make. I would recommend buying pictures only from independent photographers that are not tainted by money, who work for free and for the ideals of photography only... ;-)

This is a private forum so free speech doesn't apply and never has. When you sign up you agree to a terms of service that limits your rights to post exactly what you want such as explicit images or 'offensive' language.

There are plenty of forums with almost no censorship or control over what goes on them and they are invariably overrun with idiots, racists and advertising spammers.
