I've been asked to "fix" this old photo of my daughter-in-laws uncle who is since deceased. I've done all of the touch up I can do in PSPXI, but can't get any features in the face to look like I'd like them too. It just looks washed out still.

Anybody want to take a shot at it??? Please let me know what PP you used.

Thanks in advance...

Very good. Definitely the face had to be quite a lot darker to give it its shape.

I don't like the posterized gradient in the OPs "after" image, with it being a simple background to repair I'd leave it true to the original also.

Here is my attempt, the mash is pretty crappy so sorry about that, Also there is still colour casts in the buttons and hair that need correcting. The skin dones is also too washed out/saturated certainly needs tweeking/overpainting.

The basic work flow was mask the seperate areas, correct the colour/levels/curves in each, dodge+ burn a background, clean up noise, then a little USM sharpening.

I looked up pictures of Army dress uniforms and none of the colors were ... uniform. This version has less yellow in it. Still just guessing, though.

Here is my try, using PSP9. Much cloning, smudging, PWL, HSL, and colorizing. Not sure if the uniform color is exact, but I was in the Army during the 60's and this is how I remember my uniform.

This is one of those photos that I would really love to see what Scott Deardorff's smuding techniques could do. Anyone seen Scott lately??

I do like what you have done, especially with the background and colors, but the hair (to my eyes at least) still has too much green. What do you think?

Yes, on my monitor, it does have a yellowish tinge, sort of green. See if this took care of it.
