Hubby and I went on a waterfall quest in the Columbia River Gorge on April 22, starting on the West end and progressing to the East. The first falls was Bridal Veil.

Creek below falls:

Two-photo pano of falls, there was a LOT of water:

Calypso bulbosa, Marn posted one of these last week:

Next was Wahkeena Falls. There was a photography group there with big C* ns and N* ns and tripods. The were gracious enough to let me squeeze in with my small Oly and tripod. You can see one of the lenses on the lower left.

Next stop Multnomah Falls, two photo pano:

This little puddle was in a group of bigleaf maples along the trail up to the bridge.

More in reply.

Horsetail falls is right along the road.

Last one of the day - Elowah Falls on McCord Creek. We walked across the bridge and got quite wet. Hubby covered camera with his stocking cap. There is another part to this trail that goes to an upper braided falls on the same creek.

Fringe cup plants along the trail:

Close-up of flowers:

It has been a long time since we have been on some of these trails. It used to be possible to walk up to Wahkeena (in first post) but the trail is now closed.

I was using the SP500UZ, on tripod, because we were mostly in fairly dense woods. Thanks for the nice comments!

You've done an excellent job capturing all these falls. The pano is so well done. Your wildflowers are very good, as usual, what else would I expect. Some day I'll have to revisit these areas. Anytime I've been through there I've always been in a rush. "...no time to say hello! Good-by! I'm late, I'm late, I'm late."

Funny. I was reading about these falls just last week, and wondering why we hadn’t seen more photos of ‘em from our OTFers. How lucky you are to be able to visit such places in a day trip. I enjoyed seeing your nice photos of the falls and flowers. Your panos worked really well and are a perfect example of how they can be used to great advantage. Really nice work, Lois Ann.

Thanks, Steve. We went fairly early and since it had been raining the day before, there weren't many tourists (except at Multnomah) until later in the day.

Thanks John, I value your comments. Yes, I am lucky to live so close to such majesty. This was a good year for the waterfalls, lots of snow melt. I have been to Multnomah in April before and there were still snow banks six feet high along the road. The other climate hazard is that it might rain the entire month and it is too miserable to go out.

Thanks, David, it is a wonderful area. Thankfully, someone had the foresight to preserve it as a National Scenic Area, although there are those who want to build houses and attempt to fight the designation.
