A friend is buying me a G2 in Singapore, end of this month. Does anyone have a good contact place there to get a good price? It should anyway be about 1/3 cheaper than here in Cape Town.

Rob,

I got an equote from Cathay Photo for S$1240 w/o GST
at http://www.cathayphoto.com.sg .

Cathay Photo is a more reputable shop with good service, I heard.

Hope it helps.

sim lim square is where people go for cheaper prices. but their knowledge and service quality leaves a lot to be desired. alan photo is one of the exceptions in sim lim. if u go to sim lim, remember to always haggle with them for better price

cathay photo is definitely a better choice cos they really know their stuff, and much better services there. but price wise, i'm not too sure

u can check this link for price comparisons in singapore :-- http://www.hardwarezone.com/home/

for a good forum to find out about photography in singapore :-- http://www.clubsnap.org

I agree that Cathay Photo is a more reputable shop with regards to photography & service, and the prices they quote (1st time) are very reasonable, may not be the cheapest in town, but you can't go too far off with their first offer. IMHO.

I usually go there on Saturdays mornings, when it's not too crowded, so I can ask to try some of the other cameras before making my decision.

Try their web site http://www.cathayphoto.com.sg/ and ask for their 'equote', usually a bit cheaper than if you ask from them at the shop, or so I think. Response is a little slow (by email), usually a few days.

hardwarezone.com typically only gives prices of Computer stuffs found in Sim Lim square, and sometimes not very up-to-date. The Digital Camera prices listed are limited. BTW, it's a crowded madhouse at Sim Lim after 12noon on weekends. Esp Saturdays.

That's a great link foosbie

"Happy G2 user"

Thanks for all the feedback. It turns out that my friend is well acquainted with how to buy in Singapore- my problem now is advising him what tele lens and macro set to get for a lensmate... :) I still can't decide!

Rob
Hope your friend know where to shop and barter....even though there
are cheap prices around Singapore...as a tourists you never get the
best deal unless you are a local. It is the same everywhere.
