One of the things I really liked about the GRD was the grain at iso 1600 in black and white.

I haven't seen any comparisons in color and image quality at this moment and I hope some of you with one or both can show some high iso B&W samples (straight out camera).
Thanks in advance

hello, are you looking for b/w shots with iso 1600 in low light or daylight settings?

I'm not sure about grain in B&W mode, but in color mode I certainly prefer the grain of the GX100 over that of the GR-D. Both cameras apply very little, if any, luminance noise-reduction (which is great decision by Ricoh), but they both attempt to apply chroma noise-reduction (which is also a very good decision). It's just that the GX100 uses a more advanced algorithm which results in more film-like high-ISO pictures than those of the GR-D.

Prog.

Thanks a lot for posting, also thanks to your cat;-).
I'm happy to see that Ricoh still has the grainy look at high iso.

Great grain!
These are taken i B&W mode - right?

Would there be a difference if taken in colour, and then transformed into B&W in Photoshop? It would be the same result more or less, right?

I love the cat pictures! But do they really have more film-like grain than the GRD? Maybe just a matter of taste.

I actually prefer the GRD grain at higher ISOs, but then I am just used to it. Anything new takes a while to get adjusted to, I might learn to like th GX-100 grain better if (when) I own one.

I am trying to keep a very open mind, one so easily slips into the mode of trying to find fault with a new camera just because there is no way one can afford an upgrade right now. It feels good to find out (or make believe) that the older model is the better one after all!

So with an open mind, so far iam not convinced that the GX-100 is better or even the same as the GRD. But then I ave only seen the pictures others have posted. Everybody has their own style of photography and to really form an opinion I think I would have to gout and shoot with the Gx-100 myself.

However, from the view of a mere web posted picture obsverver and with the unqualified opinion of a non-owner, I would say that from what I have seen so far, it seems like the GX-100 does not have exactly that "dreamy" Ricoh-esque feeling to the pictures it takes. The picture si have seen remind me a lot about the G7 output (which I think is marvelous).

The one main reason why I am keeping my GRD (despite some of it downfalls) is the fact that no other camer van give me this film-noire-like interpretation of a scene, which is almost larger than than life than the real scene. If I want a nice replica of what a scene really looked like (very realistic) I would go for my Canon or Fuji cameras.

Anyways, just my 2 cents. I do like what I see from the GX-100 and maybe the prices on it will drop more than they do on the GRD. the I will definitely get one!
