I am looking to get a new printer. I want one that will print large prints something around an 11x14 or bigger.

I have an Hp now and and happy with it. I print mostly digital. I was looking at the HP 8750 what do you think?

I also have a question on paper. I use Kodak Ultra Premium paper I have tried the HP paper but did not like the results. any recomendations on paper?
thanks Jim

I am not a pro but do I do alot of printing.

I have the Epson R1800 and I love it. I did a 13x19 print of my sis and lil' girl (almost 2) and it was beautiful. There have been recent posts where people have purchased refurbished ones at great prices. I bought mine 1 1/2 years ago at full price (this is rare for me) and still absolutely love it. I purchased it because of the 8 different cartridges vs my Hp's 2. Before this purchase I was an HP fan. I started looking at Epson because of my last HP printer purchase (Color Laser) I was not too happy with. And I am glad I did. Some have purchased the R1800 and sold cartridges on eBay and went with a CIS right away. I recently went with the CIS from MediaStreet and can't stop printing just to print.

I have been researching new papers to try as well and I am ordering from RedRiver. Lots of great reviews for service and quality. They are also having a sale...

I have the HP 8750 and am very pleased with the output. So far after three months not a clog. Starts immediately and is ready to print without any fuzz.

Jim,

If you want 11x14 you want to look at 13 inch printers. My current favorite is the HP B9180. Nice prints with long lasting pigment based inks, I'm using HP Advanced paper mostly because of its near instant dry qualities and it has a nice gloss, not overboard. The Epson R1800 and R2400 are good printers to. For glossy prints the R1800 is better because it has a gloss optimizer cartridge. The Epsons hold 1/2 the amount of ink as the HP. So theoreticly the HP is cheaper to run.

Kodak papers are good, the Ultra Premium is more for pigment ink the Premium for dye ink.

I looked at less expensive printers recently and the cartridges are tiny, because of ink costs I wouldn't buy a 8.5x11 printer for photoprinting. Ink wise the HP with 27ml tanks is about the minimum printer I would get for prining photos.

Take a look at the Canon PIXMA Pro9000 too. It's reviews are every bit as good as the HP B9180 and it's over $100 cheaper.

I have the 13 inch wide R1800 pigment archival printer which can be purchased from the epson website refurbished for $299 reg $549 with free shipping no tax or the 13 inch wide archival Claria dye ink printer R1400 for $349 with free shipping no tax.

It appears to me that the dye ink is more saturated than the pigment but the pigment ink printer is really outstanding. Ink cost is high.

I agree on the R1800: I got a refurb, and it's wonderful.

Paper: I use Inkpress Photo Chrome Luster for most of my shots. It's relatively low cost, readily available (B&H Photo is where I get mine), and gives excellent results. They make a very wide range of sizes and rolls.

I've got some HP satin in 13x19 and I don't like it as much as I do the Inkpress.
