price on the D100

I have a few friends too. One will pay for your 50% off VR lens for you when you buy the Nikon D100 camera for under two grand.

Another one of my friends is an economics professor at the local college who is offering you a free class in Econ101.

And my last friend is a mushroom. Generally we keep him in the dark and feed him bull* t, but when we gave him your message he refused to eat and went on a hunger strike. He told me wouldn't eat until the quality of BS coming from this list greatly improved.

Peace, Rolland
Just thought I would let you guys know the price for the D100. A
close friend is a district manager for a large camera retailer and
has a brother that works for Nikons marketing department. He said
the price is going to be $1999. He said also that there will be
substantial promotions with the camera. One to mention is any VR
lense at half off with the purchase of the camera. He added that
Nikon is trying to change their history of not having enough
cameras to go around. He said the camera is already in/past
production but they don't want to distribute them until they know
they can meet demand.
Hope this helps you guys, god only knows you've helped me.

Not to worry. When the price comes out closer to $3K everyone will spew hateful messages how they we're duped and refuse to buy the camera. A month later, the same folks will breakdown and buy one. Historically, these type of threads happen every time a new camera is introduced.

If your friend is a phsyc major, I can understand his refusal to eat.

I hate to be a grinch but I'm skeptical of that price quote, Bendy.
We've already seen one camera store change their tune after
announcing an initial price of $2200 for the D100.
I hate to tell you this, but just because canoga wants to bend you over & slam you doesn't mean that this will be the price!!!

I hope you understand NIKON SETS THE PRICE, NOT CANOGA CAMERA!!!

Perhaps they
caught wind that the camera would be priced higher.
No, they thought they could rip people off before they actually knew the real price!!

Your quote is
the second quote I've heard from someone who "has a friend of a
friend" who is in the know with Nikon.
I actually know someone (I can't tell you his name, that woks at Mellville) that told me under $2K!!!

The other quote I heard was
$2999, in the same neighborhood as the Canon D60. Only time will
tell, this conjecture is kinda silly.
It is!! & the Canoga folkd are iresponsible in setting a false price!!
But here's hoping that your friend's quote is closer to the final
street price... ; D
He is!!

There might be a reason why Nikon is trying to sell D100 for less. I think they have evaluated Foveon technology and:

1. came to a conclusion that it will be a threat to regular CCDs THIS year.

2. decided to build a new SLR model around Foveon next year (speculation on my part)

3. capture as many semi-pro's with D100 now and switch them to Foveon model later.

Assuming, of course, that Foveon will work as well in the field as in theory. paper.

Also, the fact that there are no cameras with Foveon chips now (excl. the SD9) does not preclude that the threat does not exist. A positive response to a new technology may be enough to mess up plans for existing ones.

Paul.

Great, Like I said before, you go & pay the $3k from Canoga, it's your money:-)

I rather wait till Roberts anounces their price & then I'll buy!!

My info was just confirmed by someone else last Friday, Nikon is working o selling this body for the $2k price.

How do you think the folks that paid the $3k Pre-Order from Canoga will feel when the rest of us pay arround $2k for the same body???

Nikon is already procucing this body, & stocking up on it (Confirmed by a dealer) Yes Nikon has NDA's in place right now with their major dealers, that's why they're so tight lipped! When this body comes out, it will be aundant, not like the Canon D30, It will really be out there for the taking, no waiting lists & no pre-orders!!

I guess, I rather wait, & pay a reasonable price for it, I need a backup for my D1X

I still remember folks here last summer paying $6K for a D1X & being happy to do so, & I paid $4799 from Roberts, some folks here never cease to amaze me, they compalin about Nikons pricing, but they pay scalpers prices for gear & then don't believe when they're offered a good deal for gear & rather pay more for it!!

I have to agree with this, and with some comments made earlier by PhD Ezra. I predict the D100 will be priced more towards the 3k range, perhaps $2500 if we are lucky. Until then, all of these "pipe dream price quotes" will only be taken with a grain of salt by the people on these forums who know better.

One other thing....a lot of people on this board seem to fall into the line of thinking that Nikon should sell this camera for 2K or less because Nikon lenses and accessories are so expensive. Huh?? What these people are forgetting is that there are a LOT of people out there (like me) who already have a collection of Nikon lenses in place. We are simply waiting for a mid-price range DSLR such as the D100 to fall into our camera bags so that we can enhance the investment we've already made over the years. For every person who misses out on the D100 because it won't be priced under 2K, there are two or three people for whom the D100 will bring value and overall system enhancement, even at $2999.
Best regards,
M.

Nobody has paid anything for the D100 yet. Canoga does not charge you until the camera ships!! Some people take all of this just a little bit too seriously. We will know the price when it comes out-until then start saving!!

It would be the smartest thing Nikon or any one has ever done in decades! I hope they do it, but it seems doubtful. Though I'm sure it will be lower then the D60.

Oh Please, Do you really believe statements like:

"One [promotion] to mention is any VR lense at half off with the purchase of the camera."

Nikon only has one VR lens the 80-400mm lens and it is very expensive. There is no way in hell they are going to give a 50% off price on it.

I'm serious; the quality of BS on this list needs to improve radically or my friend is going to starve to death. If you are going to make up lies at least make them sound plausable.!!

Ugh, Rolland
P.S. my friend is a mushroom who eats BS.

Me, I don't know!!

If the body sells for $3K, there's something severely wrong!!

You get a body only, no charger & no battery!!! why would I want to pay $3k for a non profesional body when for a wee bit more I can get a D1H now, & it comes with said charger & battery??

About your implied lies, we will see when the body's MAP is annunced!!

I will personally admit i was wrong if the body MAP's for $3K like canoga is pre-seeing them righ now!!

Deal??

I think the D100 will be lower then the D60, S2, but $2000 seems to be stretching it a bit.

I perdict it will be over $2000 but under $2600 (US$)

less any promotions or rebates.

Willing to bet $100???

Jim K

Actually quite a few actually but not visible:

3D RGB Matrix meter.
Flip out magnetic door hiding five buttons and small LCD panel in the back.

The uninterchangeable viewfinder shape is clearly the F5 but the internal has been modified to adopt the F100's focus screen and the digital related display.
What F5 fretures do you see on the D1 series??

Jim K,

I think you are likrly the closest with your assessment. There is no way in hell that Nikon is going to sell there DSLR for 2000.00. Get real folks! The E-20 is 2000 for cryin out loud!

YES. BUT A 50% OFF VR LENS REBATE WOULD BE MORE THAN $600! NIKON HAS NEVER OFFERED A REBATE THAT HIGH EVER.
