G2 Shutter Fault?

After much research, I bought a Canon G2. I have to say that I am extremely impressed with the pictures taken so far, despite being somewhat of a perfectionist for image quality. Thanks to everyone on this forum for helping me to decide.

My question:

When the camera is off, the shutter appears to have three overlapping sections foremost. On my G2, one of these sections seems to be bent towards the lens. Can anyone else see this on their G2 or could it be a fault on mine? The pictures seem fine so far, but I am concerned that if one of these sections has bent, it may get worse and stop the shutter from operating properly. This may be normal and part of the design, but I would like to get some feedback on this.

Thanks in advance,

John

Thanks Martin - I should have searched under "iris". Apparently the bend on the blade is designed to stop the iris jamming and was the same on the G1.

I have just looked at some photos taken today and continue to be impressed by this wonderful camera!

I justs sold my CP990 and am currently "digital cameraless." Was just about to plunk down the cash for a G2 when Nikon announced thier D100. I think I'm going to wait to see what the price is on the D100 before getting back into the digital camera world. But I have to say I hope I don't have to wait long.

D100 will cost 5 times a G2. No comparison possible.

G2 will surprise you when compared to CP990 (i owned one!). If D100 price is higher than you expect then you could take a look at Fuji S2 or Canon D60.

Paulo...I think you might be right about that price.. I've had so many point-and-shot digital cameras over the years that I think it might be time for me to get into the DSLR world. I've got some Nikon glass already but not so much that I'm tied down to one brand. I started with the CP900s moved to the CP950 and then the CP990. They were all nice cameras for their time but like I said...I think it's time to get into DSLR. Only time, and of course, price will tell.

Thanks for the feedback!!
