This week I expect my 5D to turn over the frame counter for the third time, making it 30,000 actuations old!

In 30,000 clicks:
General Problems = 0
GB Of Pictures Saved = approx 75
Full Moon Landscapes Photographed = 18
Number Of Times Dropped = 1
Number Of Times Thrown Into Firewall Of Car From Hard Braking = 15+
Number Of Times Beach Sand Removed from 5D and 70-210 f:4 = 2
UV Filters Destroyed = 2
Number Of Times Camera Failed To Work On -37 Degree F. Day = 0
Regrets = 0

Any others out there with high mileage 5Ds?

WOW, that is really something.

They seem really tough! Mine has just done about 16,000 frames in about 15months, never missed a beat yet, although I have an extended guarantee to cover me if it does.

probably it will make others more confident about their cameras, without dumping them because someone else had a problem.

Nice to see the shutter still works in there.

That's a good point Toni. I have wondered...we always hear about the cams with issues...and it's good news to hear so we all keep a "heads up" on potential issues.

But, I wonder how many total 7D units were actually manufactured worldwide and sold into the hands of photographers...and what the percentages are of those that have issues and those which have no issues. That stat would be the confidence booster or buster.

18,000 clicks with nary a problem. NO BF, FF, FFB, or LE(lazy eye). However, never been dropped, never hit the firewall (put the strap over the headrest, DOH) and no broken filters. I haven't checked for STD's though. (shutter transmitted diseases) but no signs so far even though it's "been with" probably 30 different lenses in the last 18 months. And some of them were just a little questionable. LOL And like you, no regrets. And frankly, because it's been so trouble free (knock on wood) no plans to upgrade.

Just over 10K shots in about 18 months with the 5d. Not a whisper of a problem, thankfully! I am thinking of upgrading but am waiting to see what Sony really does with the next bodies...

Having fun with photos. A little searching can go a long way.

equipment in profile...

Hope my 5D lasts that well. I use dateformat for saving so have no idea how many shots I've done - not sure I want to know anyway, my keeper ratio could be worse than I think! I'm going to judge the success of my 5D by the number of really good keepers I get ... so that makes ... about ... 3 shots in the last year! :)

I try to remember to put the strap over the headrest, but I'm in and out of my car so much for shooting that I forget too often. Luckily the 5D seems to take a licking and keep on clicking!

(the other problem with putting it over the headrest is that it slams into the door every time I make a hard left... Maybe I should drive slower...)

Your other option is to just put it on the floor in the first place. When was the last time anything fell OFF the floor?

Forums tend to act as a magnifying glass for problems. Of course when you have a problem you are going to seek help or complain on the forum. Often that will cause others to post with speculation about it or complaints even it they haven't experienced the problem. Some problems get labelled and take on a life of their own. Other problems are not problems at all, but rather a poor understanding of the camera or some aspect of photography.

My 7D has never caused any kind of problem; even dust hasn't been a big deal. If I didn't read the forum, I would blissfully happy with the most exotic camera I have ever owned. Instead, I am slightly nervous that something might go horribly wrong with it.

I used to swing three film bodies around my neck and they would bash together while I hiked around happily taking photographs. I never worried about the potential resale value. It’s not like the gear was cheap, but it was simpler and probably a lot tougher. Having said that, I don’t really have a good reason to believe it. Shutters, film advances, diaphragms and all sorts of intricate mechanisms failed from time to time in the old days. I have been shooting digital cameras since 1998 and have owned six. In the past nine years I have had only two occasions to get a camera repaired and both were under warranty.

Thanks for posting your positive experience and reminding us that, while we hear about many of the lemons, there are a lot of cameras out there performing remarkably well.

Al

PS: Another thing to think about. Many are very unhappy with the drop in value of the camera they paid so much for. That is not unique to KonicaMinolta, just a little worse. On the other hand, my glass and accessories have held their value or gone up substantially. I can sell any of my six lenses for as much more than I paid for them. I have two 9+ beercans that I paid a total of $175 for. If current trends continue, I’ll be rich! LOL I figure, all in all, I don't have much to complain about.
