Apple just posted a free online seminar designed to help iPhoto users understand the key differences between Aperture and iPhoto -- and to show you the best ways of using the two applications together. Migrating images from one app to the other is covered in detail.

I know questions about the relationship between Aperture and iPhoto come up frequently on this forum, so I thought I'd point out the availability of this information.

The seminar is available at:

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. Aperture seems to be exactly what I've been looking for. However, this now puts me in a quandary.

I am plaining to get a MacPro (my first Mac) in June but get aperture in October when supposedly Leopard and maybe Aperture 2 will come out. But, it makes me to want to start off using Aperture up front instead of using iPhoto for four months and then migrating to Aperture.

I really don't want to buy Aperture and in four months buy an upgrade. It is bad enough that I may have to buy Leopard four months after getting the MacPro. This now makes me want to wait until Leopard comes out (possibly in October) before getting the MacPro.

What to do what to do! I've got two months to decide.

Thanks again for the info,
Steven

This is exactly the type of instruction I wanted. I really wanted to use Aperture. Unfortunately Apple made a different choice than Adobe and that was to be ridiculously slow in adding camera support. I have a D-lux3 and 6 months in there is no RAW support. Then I got an FZ8. The camera was released in March and Adobe added RAW support last week. I needed to make a decision and went with Lightroom over Aperture.

Great seminar and also enjoying your podcasts on inside aperture. It's a terrific app, and all the training, discussions, community around it is really helpful in taking full advantage of it. Nice work -- thanks!

Many thanks for this info. I hope to be seeing more seminars like this in the future, especially as products and goods continue to evolve in scope and complexity. Good job Joe.
