Sometimes you have to look up and sometimes down to see what you did not see before. But mostly certainly its is our own blindness we must see past.

stupid question, but was this from 1 picture or 2?

hi, I use a camera, flash, and lens. I'm also grumpy most of the time.

I agree with Ken Rockwell 95% of the time, people waste too much effort arguing things that in the end really don't matter. It's all about going out, taking pictures, and having fun.

Which is what I'd be doing if i wasn't at work.

This is one shot.
I took lots of photos and they all looked nice but this was the best one.
the color is totally true, I did sharpen it a little bit.

why?

I agree with the others - beautiful and interesting colors, you've just used a bit too much sharpening as is evident on the tree leaves.

Thanks for sharing,

Jason

Thanks for the imput...... I'm not real sure about the sharping thing yet I do it sometime and other time not, but I can see and understand that this time it was too much.

I just love the color of the sky...... It was so amazing that night.

was going to ask the same questioni, you've sharpened it too much,
the edges of the trees of the silhouetted look abnormal, as if it
was cropped in.
yup... not sure if it looks bad or good, it's more like a graphic design now (looking wise) and it really looks like the trees were put in after the fact.

which is ok, it's still a nice shot, and I do like the trees like they are, but it looks more like the base for a rave or club flyer than a picture of a sunset.

You could try sharpening the upper part of the image and then fadding out the sharpen by the bottom

I could achieve this in picture window pro but can't explain it in a more common package like PS

The colour is great but the tree transition odd. It isn't the best compliment to the sky, although I might not have done better

I thought I would drop in the original pic with no editing done to it.
And see if everyone thinks it was better to start with.

Thats one of the hard parts, Learning when the shot was a good as it was going to get to begain with.

Love the rich, constrasty colours of the sunset.

However, as it has been pointed out, it is oversharpened. When you see halos around trees or edges, that is a good sign that you've over done it. I have problems with this as well. :)

In terms of composition, it doesnt really move me. Perhaps you can try a another crop. There is too much black at the bottom of the frame. Maybe you can crop it about a 1/4 of the way up from the bottom. OR, you can crop it so that it's exactly half sky and half tree. There will be more balance in the photo and maybe composition will be more pleasing?

Just some thoughts.

Good job capturing these colours!

I agree with the previous poster ---

I downloaded your pic and then tried a crop, cutting off the black bottom part. This makes the sky even more dramatic and the viewer is not distracted by a big blob of black at the bottom.

It makes a good shot a great shot, IMHO.

As to the sharpening issue, if this is a jpeg with no extra sharpening applied by you, it probably means your camera has too much sharpening set.

Thanks for posting an interesting sunset!
