Greetings !

Can anyone explain me, is there a difference btween Fong's lightspheres and Nikon diffuser?

Do all Nikon diffusers from SB-800 flash limit some options in flash photography?

How bad is a Nikon diffuser?

Thanks

I have both (just like a lot of other people) and I prefer the lightsphere as it gives me the lighting that I like. I would not hesitate to use the Nikon Diffuser (similar to the Sto-Fen) if I didn't have the lightsphere with me. It works nicely also.

It boils down to a matter of choice. Your choice! Which effect do you like?

It's not a matter of one being better than the other. They're both good but different.

do these diffusers affect the focus at all in low light.
I can only speak for the Nikon diffuser, it only covers the flash light source, not the infra red beam on the front that helps with focus in low light, so no affect on focus at all with diffuser attached.

I imagine the fong would be the same, can't imagine it would cover the infra red beam, that would be extremely impracticle.

Kurt.

The biggest difference between the Lightsphere, Flip-It and the built-in bounce card and the diffusion dome is that you can put a lot of light on a bounce surface (e.g. ceiling or wall) and also send some light forward (Flip-It, bounce card) or omni-directionally (Lightsphere). The Nikon diffuser reduces the efficiency of the flash since the head is covered. The Lightsphere comes with a rounded white cover thingy which can turn it into a mutated version of the diffuser, if you want.

I've gone to the Joe Demb Flip-It, which I find to be much more flexible and convenient. It packs and stores easier and the weight is negligible. The Fong gizmo is so heavy it can cause your flash head to flop over.
