I Love Nikon but...

I am still trying to learn the D200. Where are the scene modes? :)

the d200 is a semipro camera. there are no scene mode on that kind. you would have to drop down to the consumer dslrs to get scene modes.

Is the self cleaning system. That would be nice. Other than that, nothing really jumped out and said, "Hey Man, you can't live without me!!!"

I didnt like all the reading the text while he was speaking japanease! Although I liked the look of he camera, the film was a classic 'medicore'. Obviously this isnt the official ad for the 1D mark III ... Is it? I suppose those who 'need' this camera dont watch these ads as we do.

...all the self-cleaning systems, except Olympus', are virtually useless for removing dust. I think Canon's system was second to Olympus', but still only about 10% effective. Anyone remember the link for that article, or the thread that contained it?

It looks like it might be "the camera to buy". At a perfect 10 mpx & 10 fps with all the options you could imaging or ask for. Nothing Nikon has comes close to this thing. If the noise is low at high ISO, and the reviews positive, what pro or hobbyist with money would pass this up?

Much of it sounded like some foreign language to me. :-)

But, it certainly looks like a nice camera. But I have a fairly large investment in Nikon Glass that I'm not yet willing to give up, or need to at this time, The D2X camera works just fine for me and I don't plan on retiring it for at least 2-3 years more. God knows what cameras will be doing by then from either company, but it would have to be huge for me to consider switching and potentially having to rebuild my lens stock.

Fortunately for me, it isn't a business driven decision. If it is for others then of course it another matter.

Still I think I'd wait to see what develops - from what I see with dual processing chips etc... they could be in for a bit of growing pains much like the D200 has experienced... - so maybe waiting for 6 Months or a Year might just be a good idea - to see what kind of issues show up. If you're really pressured and can afford it, then do as you need to do, and Good Luck.

Like I said before though, just based on what I've seen in the announcements it looks cool, I'm hoping Nikon will continue to develop new and exciting cameras as well. But I don't know that they ever released in sync with Cannon, so I'll just have to wait and see what and when Nikon responds.

What I'd really like is if Nikon halved the price of their Big lenses, that would really get my juices flowing :-)

If anything I'd like to have everything on that camera EXCEPT the cleaning mode.

spell it... but anyway, I have so much invested in Nikon glass that any other mfg would have to send me a personal female instructor, body and personality of my choice, for 5 years and pay ALL her expenses, plus have her deliver my own for keeps, tax free, MB SUV.

I do make money with my Nikon gear. I can not afford to jump to mfg everytime one of them gets it exactly right in a given model. I could swing the camera changes, but the glass... I dont have that kind of money to throw around. I will 'suffer' through with Nikon.. I dont even read anymore what the other guys latest and greatest is.. I spend my time on tuts and practice, and software, and lighting, and........oh yes, bigger and better Macintosh computers....

...to match this?!?!

A worked over D2h with a D200 sensor (maybe as a LBCast version), add some neck breaking features and you got it! Nikon should be able to get close to Canon's beast... But we'll see. Just sit back and relax... ;o)
