Which free software is best?

I am new to Dslr and want opinions as to which free processing software is best. I have Picture Project that came with my D40 and have Picasa. Of these which do would you recommend? Or is there something better?

for the money (free) it is one of the best. Not as easy as PS, but a lot cheaper.

Take a look at Photofiltre. This link is to the last free version as it is now shareware. Feature rich, powerful application. Lots of tutorials, support, plugins, galleries on the same site. Snoop around a bit. Cheers ...

Get several free ones and practice - you will find the features you want - I tried several then ended up buying PS elements (about $50USD), then the full version of Photoshop (edu versions 5 - 7, about $300USD), then I popped for CS upgrade and love it, but have not seen the need to upgrade to CS2 or above (yet
