Here is a few photos from my Uzi from this mornings AM space shuttle launch. This shot is without my b-300 ( forgot the stepup ring) Its an out of the box shot. No editing or tweeking, just resized to make it smaller for file transfer.

This was worth waking up early for.

Enjoy

How far away were you?

back a few years ago, 1997 or 98 we were done to Florida.

Went to see a Shuttle launch. It was scheduled for 3:00 am or there abouts. Went parked along a couseway, next to the Coust Guard. They said we were 10 miles away. couldn't see anything for trees, but the glow of the spot lights shining towards the Shuttle.

We were listening to the count down on our radios and then could see the VERY bright glow start. It was up a far ways when we started to hear the rumble. It actually set off a couple of car alarms!!

It was some view, something we will never forget!!--Don StefanikC-2100UZ RCA-1.5, C-210 1.9 tele lens. http://www.pbase.com/djstefanik/gallerieshttp://www.soslube.comhttp://www.don.stefanik.comLIVE LONG and PROSPER

These are wonderful, and I am p---ed off. We're down in St. Pete, and were planning on going up there with the UZI to get some pictures of the liftoff. Then we heard on TV that the mission was scrubbed because of the unseasonable cold. So we went to bed. They went anyway, huh? Well, it was good to see your fine shots, and they show off what these cameras will do. Thanks for the post.

The location of this shot is on the beach at Atlantic Beach, Florida. Which is about 140 north of the cape.

I was at the that launch (also forgot the year). My brother got us some VIP passes to the launch area, and were about 5 miles away. ( closest you could get & lots of military check points) To see pictures is one thing, but to hear and feel the rumble and the roar of those rockets is something one never forgets.

There are plenty of areas to view the launch in the that area. Along the causeways, west side of the Intracoastal waterway. As long as you have a clear view of the VAB, you have a good viewing area.

Hi,

Thanks for posting these. If you don't mind, I have two questions:

1. What is the time lapse between the first and last photos? I have heard that the shuttle literally 'jumps' off the launch pad whereas the old Apollo rockets were accellerated more gradually.

2. Do you know how close NASA will allow spectators? Is there an observation area near Cape Canaveral?

Thanks,
Bill

( cam time may be off a bit) Well the first shot was taken @ 06:26:39 and the last shot ( con trail) was 06:28:40. Its does move fast.. I have a shot of the booster seperation, but it was blured too much.

Here is a link to the viewing areas out side of KSC
