Port Sunlight is a village in the Wirral and the heart of industrial NW England - about 5mins from the centre of Liverpool which is just the other side of the river Mersey. The 'sunlight' refers to Sunlight Soap and this village was built in the late 1890s by William Lever to house his factory workers!

Some of the best architects in the UK at the time designed the buildings and it shows - in any case it is very different from the social housing schemes of today :-)

Hope you like the pics.

Ian

very nice, too bad the Fujis are "useless" in daylight hehehe!!!

Are you UK native?

Great shots and good composition. I like them a lot, a bit too sharp but it suitable for show off architecture works. I feel these PP was done by residents of tropical country which tend to preferred sharper photos because their eyes used to bright light and high contrast and also look warm enough (I learned from my design class) , which mean me too.

Would you mind to share your sharpen technique?

Nice shots, but way way way oversharpened and processed.
Cubensis,

Thanks for your comments - I suspect the over processing that you refer to is probably mostly due to chrome mode which I used on all shots and with which I am still experimenting. The oversharpening however I accept and this is purely down to operator error - I am still learning PP and had read that you should re-sharpen after resizing but I guess I should have obeyed the old saying - 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'.

Ian

3dpro,

I agree entirely with you that they are too sharp but it seemed a good idea at the time!

I used focusmagic at 1 pixel/100% after resizing . It would have been better to have used nothing or else a much lower % I guess.

Maybe I'll post 1 or 2 back but without any sharpening to see what you all think.

Ian

Resizing after sharpening isn't a bad thing, but the best rule with sharpening is keep it subtle... look at your pics before and after sharpening - you'll see what to avoid.

Hi Ian,

These are lovely views. However, I also concur with others that it is a bit much on the sharpening. Not unpleasant, just noticeable. But I do love what you photographed. Thank you for sharing.

Best regards,

Mike

PS - any info on that Alpine Chalet?

Mike,

Thanks for your comments.

(Re the Alpine Chalet I put all the info I could find back on the original thread earlier on.)

I like them all but this one had PF so I hope you don't mind if I fixed it and posted the fixed photo. I use PFree and it works great at getting PF out.

Matt,

Thanks for that - any help is greatly appreciated. I have tried PFree on other shots before but found it difficult to decide where to leave the 3 colour sliders. What did you set it at for this photo so I can try it myself on the original?

Regards,

Ian

These are excellent pictures, but as noted earlier a bit oversharpened. You can go back and soften them a bit and they will look great. The over sharpening is really noticeable on number 3. The rock rock facing glistens with artifacts. Dave

David,

Thanks very much for your heplful comments.

I see what you mean about the artifacts now. I had saved the unsharpened version of 3 and have uploaded it for comparison:-

Sounds like you have a different version than mine. I just mostly use the default settings and only change them if they need it. When changing the settings it's like experimenting with Neat Image for NR you have to 'play it by eye' - I use the Pfree 'free' plug-in version for PS... Matt

Matt,

I just tried it on the original of that particular shot with the sliders left on default and it worked a treat. Thanks.
