D200 and snakes

very nice pics...i liked no. 7 most as the surroundings are looking quite natural. In some pics the sharpness is less and the background is very artificial. Dont know if you could control it but all in all a good effort.
Best wishes

I actually love photographing snakes. Here are several of mine. Some of these were taken with the D70.

I do love the colors in yours by the way.

BEAUTIFUL snakes!! I think snakes are wonderful creatures, but sadly mistaken and they are often killed because of it.
My last snake was a male Albino Burmese Python that I had for 13 years.
Unfortunately he died right before Christmas last year.
Here he is last summer.

Beautiful pics. Is the second one a Copperhead?

I hope you weren't too close to the Gaboon. That's a serious snake!

P.S. I've had amnesia for as long as I can remember.

Thanks. It's not a copperhead. I would really like to find one to photograph - they are beautiful snakes. That one is a Cottonmouth - they aren't always black - especially when they are young.

Luckily, the Gaboon Viper was at the zoo.

Great photos guys! I do agree that snakes make wonderful subjects. Here's a couple of diamond pythons from downunder....

And a lousy shot of a red bellied black snake that we rescued out of a swimming pool. The pool was empty but freshly painted. He survived but it took a couple of months before he sloughed off the painted skin

The secret of success is sincerity. Once you can fake that you've got it made.

Aren't those fairly poisonous?
Brian, sorry for the late reply..

Red bellied black snakes are classed as dangerously venomous but that's a bit ambiguous. There's no recorded case of a bite from one having killed an adult but the symptoms are bad enough that you might wish you were dead.

Generally, they're very timid snakes and will do whatever they can to get away from you but they will strike in defense so you have to be carefully when they're stressed out - like when they're stuck to the bottom of a swimming pool :-)
