Good case for G7

Hi , I purchased a Lowepro APEX 60 AW . Nice soft inside to protect the camera and a seperate flap inside to hold a spare card and also room for a spare battery . Contains a flap for holding it on a belt although this is velcro so dont know if I would trust it . Also has a waterproof cover buillt in .

Another good choice is the Tamrac 5292 or t92. I chose that one. It also fits the G7 nicely. I found it at Circuit City for $16. It loads from the top which is nice, and there's plenty of room for the neck strap.

The Apex is a good choice too.

Thank you very much for the replies. I just discovered the my Threads feature and was finally able to check on this thread. Thanks again. Vektor

SFbags.com (Waterfield bags) has a terrific little camera case that fits my G7 like it was made just for it (the "zoom" size bag). It comes in a few different colors and textures. I got an orange one cause it matches my Computrecker laptop/dSLR bag - I can throw the G7 in as well and not have to worry about it and I am so trendy and color coordinated it makes my co-workers ill.

I bought this Luigi case for my LX-2, which I have since sold. Happily the case is a perfect fit for the G7, a snug fit though. I found that a Zippo case makes a good spare battery holder too. I think they compliment each other. My girlfriend thinks it's hilarious though.

Dude, you have stumbled across a case (aussie Tech Buy) that has been discussed here at length and loved by many.

I have one and my G7 looks proud to wear it.

You'll like it, buy it!

Yeah I wrote canon about it yesterday and got my response this morning. They said regrettably it is not available through Canon USA. How weird is that. The coolest case and we have to order it from Australia. The US Case is fine but what are you supposed to do with the case while you're shooting. I'm definitely buying the Aussie one as soon as I recover from the cost of the camera itself.

I have the 'fake', smooth leather case (from e-bay/Hong Kong), and I'm curious about the differences - other than the obvious textured leather.

The detachable front part of mine has a bit sticking out, as if to protect a protuding lens - just like the 'genuine' case, but the inside is flat. Sort of a plano-convex shape:

I'd just like to know whether this is the same on the 'genuine' case. Am I missing out on anything?

The knock-off Chinese case is fine for the price. It lacks subtle detailing in fit and finish and accuracy, in addition to a cheaper leather. Name badge is stamped in instead of how it looks on the real Canon case. I bought the Canon before the Chinese ripped off the design and started selling it. I still would buy the Canon case now, as long as I can afford it. Photographers involved in protecting their intellectual property have no problem supporting a knock-off outfit ripping off someone else's design, so long as it's cheap and available.

Happy together.

I ordered the dcsc-50 from Tech Buy in Oz two weeks ago, and it arrived last evening. What a great little case! Fits like a glove and now I won't have to hold part of it in my hand when I unleash the camera. Great especially if you plan to have the camera around your neck or on your shoulder.

Thanks for your 'side-by-side' comparison, Savas. You obviously went to a lot of trouble to compare the two. However, you seem to have left my question unanswered. Sorry if I didn't state it clearly enough.

Is the front part of your 'genuine' case curved on the inside, or flat?

In response to your rant about IP infringement, I have no evidence (and unless I'm missing something - neither do you) to prove that Canon China didn't authorize the smooth leather version for sale in China and Hong Kong. I used the terms 'fake' and 'genuine' in quotations in my post to reflect this. In fact, I was assured by the supplier that it was 'genuine', and was given no reason to doubt their word. I haven't had any problems with 'subtle detailing in fit and finish and accuracy'. Of course, that would be hard to determine simply by looking at photos on a computer screen.

On the subject of hypocrisy, you seem quite happy to circumvent Canon's 'right' not to make their case available in the USA by deviously importing from Australia. Some might argue that you're being a little selective in your interpretation of the ethics of copyright.

You obviously toiled cobbling that one together. I meant you no harm, so relax.
