If firmware upgrades to the D-30 can make so many people suddenly have better autofocusing cameras, I just KNOW that we'll have loads of people reporting better AF from the D-60.

Assuming somebody actually upgrades, that is. ;)--The Unofficial Photographer of The Wilkinsons

I thought you wanted the 1D???

My friend just ordered a 1D from Canoga, and it will be here
on Wednesday... I'm going to take my 28-70L, 100-400L IS
and 1gig microdrive and shoot off a few hundred shots :)

I think this will be the end of my cash flow.

You know, I could have sworn that AF worked better after the firmware update, but I also knew that my opinion was tainted by what I've read on here.

I'm going to go to the dealer when the D60 is available, put my D30 next to it, and see if something happens. Like the D60 teaches the D30 how to AF.

Oh yes - "hahaha".

I'd love it at $2999 MSRP. I wouldn't even demand a discount of MSRP. ;)

I'm not sure what I'm gonna do just yet. Maybe nothing. Maybe get a D-60, try it out, and just SEE if it really seems worth the upgrade. If I sell it within a month (before the Nikon's hit), I shouldn't lose TOO much if I decide I don't like it.

Don't do it! LOL. That's the worst thing you can do. Try something you know you'll want, but don't want to afford. ;)

Man, it is FAST!!!, but the banding is really a problem.

The camera came with the 1.2 fw already installed.

I'll be a rabbit here;

I just sold the D30, and ordered the D60, they actually said it could be here within a week or two! I'll wait and see.

I really wanted the firmware upgrade to improve the autofocus, so I conducted a (IMO) very controlled set of preocedures for pre- and post- shots, but I have to report that the firmware upgrade had zero % influence on my D30s AF. I mainly tested for low-light AF without any camera/flash strobe to help out. I was not looking at AI-servo at all.
I can repeat the tests any day, and will do so when the D60 arrives...

Once you've worked with a 1D (A REAL camera) there is NO way you will live with anything else. The autofocus speed is captivating, and the build quality and feature set is icing on the cake. Enjoy.....

Magne,

I thought you were going to get a Fuji S2?

Man, it is FAST!!!, but the banding is really a problem.
If the banding is so bad why are you buying one then?
Michael:

Maybe he's buying for the same reason you did.
He loves everything else about the camera, and can live with the
banding!

You remind me of an "over-protective mom"

Put the shotgun away!!
Anthony,
I don't always agree with your opinions, but I enjoy reading your posts.

I'll try to be less protective. When I get a chance I'll email you a surfing shot I did last week with my 1D.

Glad to see you gave up the D60 babble and focusing on the true meaning of photography again. Now if others here would just follow your example and stop going on about D30, D60, 1D, D100, S2, X3....blah blah blah and go shoot some photo's. Nice idea of you to post some ideas of things to shoot.

One piece of advice for anyone who is not sure: Unless you are planning to buy a 1D, don't try one out at your local store!!

I made that mistake a few weeks ago, my D30 went on e-bay that night. I am waiting for my 1D to be delivered as we speak.
