I just started having a problem with my DSC-H2 where after shooting 10-15 pictures, the half press of the shutter release button (to pre-focus, etc.) does nothing. I can still shoot just fine by pressing it all the way down.

Anyone else have shutter release problems with their DSC-H2?

I just sent mine back in for warranty service. We'll see what happens.

It's at Sony-authorized repair in Connecticut, where their online status tracker says they're waiting on a part, so I guess they agree there is indeed a problem.

Now I'm just hoping I'll get it back before my NYC Xmas trip.

I'll update.

Oh boy!

Am kinda happy that am not alone. :D

After 12,000 pics, my H2's half-press gave up suddenly last week. Could you tell me what the problem exactly is after you get it fixed?

Really miss my fully functional camera. :(

Thanks,
Payne

This is a chronic Sony problem. It's their design of the switch that causes these problems. I believe they replace the little circuit board with the switch. One guy reported that he went through 3 H5's before he got one that worked!

You should NOT be happy that other Sony DC owners have the same problem. What that means is that even when you get your shutter switch replaced, it's prolly going to fail again, because the new assy. is designed the same way as the original one... :-(

This is an issue that never has been resolved, as to whether the repaired cameras were given an improved switch assembly and if they kept working after they were returned. Since Sony has never communicated any information about this fault, we don't know how many H2 and H5 units were affected. It would seem that the majority of these cameras did not fail, but maybe many people who used them never realized that the half-press function had quit working. I had three H5s break down this way, but they were from the same dealer and their serial numbers were within 10 numbers of each other. Let's hope that Sony has identified the source and cause of the defective components and we won't see a similar problem with the new models.
