The F31fd pdf of the manual at the Fuji website indicates that the range of the flash is 21,3 feet at 1x zoom and 11.5 at 3x zoom. It doesn't list distances for the various ISO levels.

If the sujbect is 8-10 feet away and the camera is zoomed to 3x, what ISO level does the camera have to use to get proper exposure? I imagine it has to push ISO fairly high, and you can't get good exposure at ISO 100 at that distance when fully zoomed??

For goodness sakes. Try the combination and come to your own conclusions. This is digital and not film. Your experimentation will cost nothing.

It depends on the lighting of the room...

Let's say typical low-light living room conditions, at night with no daylight coming in from windows. A 4-bulb ceiling light that is too dim to read by comfortably (unless you have very good eyes).

I am trying to decide whether to buy this camera for typical living room grand kid shots in less than ideal lighting. I'd like to be able to get good flash shots from 8-10 feet away, zoomed to 3x, and not have the ISO go above 400 or maybe 800. Is the flash stong enough to do that?

The flash will not only be more than enough, it will be very intelligent in accurately measuring and exposing the pic with just the right amount of brightness!

I am happy with the flash as much as 11 feet at full 3x tele in dimly lit rooms.

Is it true that the F31fd takes really great long exposure pics? Find out the answer by clicking below.
