707 for 499 (yep 499)

Well, I doubt that it'll happen because there IS a huge difference. $499 is after all semi possible.
Unless of course you're calling poor Gary a liar.
(Like he didn't get enough poop already from this other guy....)

By the way, I'd like to ask everyone to please remove everything in the reply that is not relevant to your follow up. This saves the owner of this site a huge amount of bandwith and makes it a lot easier to find the actual text we're supposed to read.

George
One of these days a major camera magazine is going to have a
misprint and advertise the 707 for $99 because they left out one
nine. After this several people will write in to say how Sears
price matched this. My question is-how soon do you think this will
occur?

I realize that, but the magazine ad must have been from some camera company. Can you look at the ad and tell us what company is in the ad, or a phone number to call?

Thanks,
Kathy
Go to Barnes and Nobel, purchase the magazine Digital Camera Dec
2000 issue with a picture of the 5 mega pixel showdown on the
cover. On page 75. there is an ad for a 707 in the upper left hand
corner for 499. Take that ad to Sears, Wal-mart, Best Buy, Circuit
City or anywhere that does price matching.

Well, I don't think it's true that it's brittish...if you look at the guys website, it shows he lives in the states....i'm thinking maybe it's a bogus subject to get people to see the link to his company! Ya think if it was for real he wouldn't be so stingy in giving out the name of the company...
Here's the conversion
Results: 499 BRITISH POUND (GBP) = 712.4968 US DOLLAR (USD)
and here's the link
http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/currency/currcalc.html

I have no doubt it's real but I do suspect a foreign magazine with
a foreign currency. I think someone here confirmed it too.

I went to my local Sears store. For 77 more dollars, I purchased a
over the counter replacement warranty (two years) that will give me
a new camera if mine ever fails to work properly, no questions
asked. For 576 dollars I have what most people pay twice that for.
Do what I did and you can have one also.

I first came on this forum yesterday, and since them I keep reading.
Anyway, I want to buy the Sony F707 after reading stuff on Internet.

I wanted to wait May (my birthday!), but when I saw those messages about Sears, I decided to make the move now, as they will probably figure out this is a bad deal for them!!!

I went at Sears at lunch time to ask how their matchprice works. Basically, she told me it work on the web, but they have a list of valid shop (sic!).
It seems nobody knows what the rule is...

Anyway, I printed from http://www.amphotoworld.com for $649 and from http://www.bwayphoto.com for $669. I will go on my way back home later today, I will let you know how it goes...

I live in Chicago, anybody as tried matchprice with the Sears in Chicago downtown?

Go to the Sears web page and print out the doc on the price match policy (click on the left bottom note on page 1 of the site). That should resolve any issues you get from anyone at Sears.

Below is a list of Sears' established retailers. The page these came from is misleading I think. There are several people, from what I've read, who have had Sears price match Internet retailers who are not on this list.

Amazon.com
BestBuy.com
Bluelight.com
Crutchfield.com
CircuitCity.com
Homedepot.com
Lowes.com
JCPenney.com

Did you show them a web page printout or an ad in a magazine. Did they have to "call it in" or anything? If you used a magazine ad, which one was it?

Thanks!

I just bought a 707 at Sears for $701. The price was $669, but Sears' policy is to also consider the shipping from the website, so that added another $32 (UPS Ground from NYC).

All I did was printout the webpage order form at http://www.bwayphoto.com , showing the price of the camera and the shipping charge. Took it to my local Sears store and talked to the salesman. He immediately recognized the ad and said he sold another 707 to someone 2 days ago for the same price. Since he already had authorization from the previous sale, my sale was pretty easy. I guess word is getting around if someone in my small town beat me to the punch on this deal. :-) I also showed the salesman the ad from http://www.amphotoworld.com , but he said he would have to call that one in for authorization. Not wanting to push my luck over a $20 savings, I took the sure thing.

Only one box was left and it wasn't factory sealed, plus the date on the outside said Oct. 2001. I asked if I could have another ordered and it was not a problem. Salesman agreed I would most likely get a later serial# model if I waited for a new order.

Salesman also told me that if I received a model that required the Sony upgrade, to bring it back in and exchange it for another 707 at Sears, rather than deal with Sony. This isn't the Sears that I remember! Outstanding customer service and an outstanding price.

I had some doubts about this offer when I started reading this thread... especially when the name-calling started. But it appears the $669 price (plus shipping cost) is legit at Sears.
Thanks!

Good news.

Do you mind if I ask what city and state this Sears was in?

Ok, I just came back from Sears in Chicago.

I show her the web sites, she was surprised with the price. She told me they changed their policy regarding ecommerce. She show me a list of web sites eligeable for the price match. The list is short, roughly equivalent to the list I saw in the previous posts ( http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=2282446 ).

I asked them if they would price match if I have an add in a magazine, and she said probably... I bought ont today, but the lowest price was 709, so I will try later this week with this magazine.

Meanwhile, I will try in Sears and Wallmart in SC as my girlfriend is there right now, we never know, this might work.
I will let you know what happen.

The store is in Medford, Oregon. As I said, I was the second one in the last 2 days to use the price matching offer.

in fact I went twice to Sears. The first time they told me that they changed their policy. The second time the did not say anything. In fact I had a copy from their web site. They are no limitation on price matching

I wanted to do the same with another shipping address tonight, the price is now 699.
The price went up on Broadway Photo too...
Weird, I read the prices for F707 will go done in this forum...

I had no Idea I would have started such a fuss by my walking into a Sears store and retating my story here. I have been called everything from a god to the evel one. All I wanted was a deal on a camera. I see several people here have done like myself and got a deal on a camera. I just found out that Office Max also price matches. Order it online, pay their price, then fill out a form and submit it and your refund arrives in a week. I like this better because you have the upper hand by already having the camera. Their price matching policy is very clear and it works just like Sears without the queezy feeling like you are trying to get away with something by finding the right store or the right employee. Sears seems to have a weak policy and not consistant. Office Max will be my next camera outlet. I think I want an e10 to compair to my e20. Sometimes I want faster speed at the option of less pixles.
