I recently bought a SD700 IS and, having not yet received my SanDisk 2Gb Ultra SD card, I used a 1Gb Kingston MiniSD in the SD adapter. I shot a couple hundred shots and downloaded them. After reading the manual on formatting the card in the camera for best video performance I decided to format in the camera. Then I used it here and there for about 20 more shots which went fine. However, the next day when I turned on the camera it told me the card was locked. I tried sliding the lock mechanism both directions, moving the mini card in and out of the adapter and even checked if the adapter was working by using another miniSD from my phone. The adapter was fine but neither the camera nor my computer will recognize the card. The computer doesn't show any attempt to mount the card. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Curt

Somehow, being in the US, I am hesitant to buy something direct from India. The card was not expensive so probably easier to just replace. What I really want is the access the card. From what I have read in several threads it seems that it is not possible to do anything if the card itself is not being recognized by the reader or the camera.

Thanks for you help.

  • I could see all the photos on the card, but couldn't erase them, or format the card.
First time, I tried a bunch of different card readers, and finally found one that allowed me to reformat the card.

Second time (a couple of years later), the same thing happened. This time, the same reader wouldn't work, so I sent my card back to ATP, and they replaced it. Let's hear it for ATP's 5-year warranty :)

It was a 1GB card - so I could've pretty much picked up a replacement for the price of postage.
