another "what to buy" question!

I think it depends on the work you do.I had a 10d and went to the 5d a year ago, wow! I also put some L glass on the 5d,the image qaulity is awesome. My 10d is my back-up now,I also think the 5d you need to be more of a photographer with all the different settings you can use to capture images.I shoot mostly raw in the faithful mode and have had some great results. Also the 5d auto focus is on another level then that of the 10d.I have got some great images at high iso(1200)with the 5d.Like the 10d the 20d is a great camera, but my opinion the 5d is a big step above. You need to decide if the upgrade is worth it,I did.Hope this helps.Bob

I agree with the previous poster, and once again reiterate that it all depends on what work you do. Also, as a consideration, what sort of glass have you accumulated for your 20D? From what I've read around here, full frame cameras can expose flaws in lenses that may not show up on crop cameras (e.g. vignetting).

Do you need more megapixels? A jump to the 12 on the 5D would be more significant than a jump to (presumably) 10 on the 30D successor.

Do you need speed? You're downgrading to 3fps on the 5D, so if you could afford the extra funds, maybe a jump to the 1DMkIIn would be appropriate.

Just a few things to consider...

ok...I have had my 20d for two years this month. What is next?
30d?5d?markIII? Got the money so what do I do if anything?
You definitely do not need another camera body. Sit on the money and go take some photos. That'll tell you what you need in the way of lenses, speedlight, remote switch, tripod, editing software,...

Maybe the question is what doesn't the 20D do for you? Personally I wouldn't consider the 30D if I already had the 20D, but for me it was a very worthwhile upgrade from the 10D.

The 5D and 1DMkIII are a whole new level, really depends whether the features are worth it to you.

It also depends on lenses and typical subjects. Going to a 5D or something better will change/remove the crop factor - great for someone who wants wider views and doesn't have EF-S lenses, bad for someone who loves to shoot at the long end of their zoom lenses and has some EF-S lenses.

If your 20D hasn't let you down then stick with it and buy awesome lenses!

Just grab a 1D Mark IIn now or wait for the 1D Mark III to come out...

Instead of the body maybe you should look at the 300 F/2.8 IS L with a 1.4 TC to give you more reach... The 20D 5 FPS should work fine for hobbyist sports...
