Hi Folks,
I'm following this forum for a longer time. I found many answers about S5.
Downloaded lot of photos to see quality. I'm almost conviced to buy S5.

I'm still using NIkon F80 and not going to get rid of it, not in my life, but I just got to buy DSLR. I'm portrait photographer (all welcome to look at my photos) sometimes doing children photography, sometimes street candid. Never sport nor fashion catwalks.

I'm still concerned about speed of writing to card and how long it takes to get a next shot. Still waiting for review but maybe one of you can help me?
I'ts only RAW I'm iterested about or RAW+JPG and 400%.
My portrait session ussualy takes from 30min to 2 hours (changing locations)

I shoot between 1 to 3 film, slides 36frames, allways use single frame, sometimes thou quicklypressin shutter
How S5 would do during such sessions?
Thank you for answers!

In its most challenged mode I believe you can pop two photos every second for 7 in a row before the buffer clogs.

How fast the buffer clears is somewhat linked to how fast a flash car you have. I believe someone just posted the write speed findings.

If your a deliberate shooter you are likely going to be fine, if you like to fire off a lot of pictures in a shot period and you use RAW and you use Wide DR, it could get dicey.

Good luck!

Your web site is way slow. Not to condemn, but you should do something about that before you get another camera.

Agree with me we will get along fine. Disagree? Ditto

I agree. Slow isn't even the word. Glaciers are slow. That site gives a new definition to the word slow. And I have a fast cable modem/connection.

So you need to shoot 108 frames in RAF, wide DR, that is 2.700 MB which will easily fit on 2 x 2 GB cards.

The fuji S5 will have an 8 image buffer with 5.5 sec. flush time/image. Disregarding the buffer, you will be able to shoot about 11 images/minute, 108 images = 10 minutes of writing files.

With the Nikon D80 you get 6 NEF buffer but only 2.2 sec. flush time per file.

I think that the 8 frames buffer can be adequate for portraiture, I shot with the Fuji S3 tethers in the studio, 3 images buffer, about 7 sec. flust time (in computer) it wasn't a joy but it worked.

You should be safe, it is clear that you are a deliberate shooter with about 100 images per session.

When you will shoot the Fuji S5 you may discover that if you apply your film photographic experience you can get great results in jpeg.

You will get 7 frames buffer, 3.7 sec. flush time per image with Image Display ON, at least 378 full size jpegs on a 2 GB SanDisk Extreme III card.

The Fuji S5 is great in jpegs, you get full control of the DR or you can test the Film simulations which can also be tweaked to your liking.

The Fuji S5 also have a very elaborate fine tuning for white balance, including Auto and no less than 5 Custom white balance slots which can also be fine tuned independently.

You will also get the CLS commander mode of the built in flash of the Nikon D200 which can work with two remote flashes groups for quite elaborate lighting setups.

This camera was really designed to be fine tuned to your liking so you can get the desired results with minimal (if any) post processing.

I shoot RAFs only when I need Tiffs as final output, for publication.
