Epson offers deal on R1800

Seems like a recurring nightmare. I bought refurbished Epson equipment, and went through the same problems. Switch didn't work, DOA, etc.. They did replace and provide shipping labels each time, but, after the third, Epson refused to send another (out of stock). So after all that effort, no satisfaction.

OK. I got mine hooked up yesterday and it did a decent job on two
prints. I then prepped another print and it quit, giving me all the
flashing lights it has except for roll paper. It won't print a test
sheet, with or without the USB cable connected.

General error message. Yes, well...WTF is a "general error"?

So, I sent email yesterday, but I'm thinking today's a day for the
phone to see what happens there.

This printer will be a good deal, IF it works properly, and IF that
working starts pretty soon. Otherwise, I wasted $299.

I bought one of the refurbished R1800s from Epson. I ran into a few
problems (first they sent the wrong printer, the next one had a
defective power button) but Epson was very quick to replace each
unit. They overnighted them to me and e-mailed pre-paid shipping
labels. In the end, they took great care of me and I'm very happy
with my R1800. (In all, they had to ship 4 units to me! It took 15
days from my order until I got the working one. It took a little
patience on my part but I'm happy I toughed it out.:)
My replacement is due in tomorrow: curiosity compels me to ask if they want the ink cartridges back. I know when I returned laser printers in the past, the toner cartridges were tossed...or were supposed to be.

I might go with a R2400 if that was offered, but I only see R1800s.

Too late, I just ordered the R1800. Cross your fingers. I've been thinking about a 3800 more than the R2400 actually, but the R1800 price was just too good. For the 3800 price range I want longer printing, so I'm thinking of waiting for a new 4800 with auto switching blacks some time down the road. The R1800 should hold me over. Heck at that price I might buy two, one to set up with B&W inks since B@W is such a weak spot with the R1800.

I debated this one back and forth for a while.
The 2400 is $450 after discount, the 1800 $269.

Ultimately, I chose the 1800. I already have an r800 so the ink would be the same. Plus, I have found many easily available and inexpensive papers that work well with the inks in the 800 and 1800.

I do most of my printing on satin/semi gloss and glossy, so the 1800 seemed the better choice. I do find the gloss differential to be annoying even on the 2400. I also occasionally do matte, and not having to change matte and glossy black with the 1800 was the final straw.

Also, I rarely do B&W. I love B&W photography that others have done, but don't do it myself. The 2400 would be perfect if instead of the two greys you had the option of putting in the matte black and a GLOP cart.

Interesting combination: Wood, vehicles, writing and photography ...
Enjoyed your website.

Glad you enjoyed it.

A quick note: the young woman who promised me delivery on Wednesday may simply have misread the dates. I'll give it tomorrow morning, but I have, as one of the young people, and afternoon session with a 1955 Chevrolet Nomad that I can't miss.

Not a blinking word, and no printer. I really don't have time for this, but I guess tomorrow morning gets dedicated to Epson's customer service line. Maybe I can work on today's collection of shots while listening to someone else's choice of bad music.

Promises are great. Fulfillment is far better. I have a lot of fresh, large (11x14 and 13x19) paper and ink here, and a series of shots I need to print. After Tuesday, I get to ship the printing out, which is probably going to happen.

When you say you do not have time for this, I know what you mean.

That is why I am waiting to buy my next printer. I have been lusting after the HP B9180, but there are so many stories of bad printers and lousy customer service that I do not want to deal with.
Although, I would really like to do my own printing I may just send it out!!
Happy Easter ...

My refurbished R800 recently developed a terminal blockage of the magenta print head and while the item was no longer warrantied by Epson, it was still under my AmEx gold card. Long story short, because of my investment in inks I rolled the $292.50 I received from American Express back into a refurbished R1800. I haven't installed it yet -- just received it yesterday -- but it looks brand new and arrived with all inks and accesories. Yeah!

Same to you.

I just talked to Epson CS, and they checked with FedEx--it was shipped two day on Monday. It has been sitting at the local FedEx terminal since Tuesday some time. Someone typed in a "4" instead of a "2" in my ZIP code, confusing FedEx, so they couldn't find my house.

Yeah, right. FedEx delivers here at least once a week. This is a small area, and the county in which I live has fewer than 65,000 people, fewer than half those served by the FedEx terminal where the box is being held (it is to be delivered today). I'm in the phone book, and they cannot help but KNOW that the local ZIPs do not include any with a "4" in that part of the number.

So, Epson makes a typo and FedEx blows off a customer, in essence.

Both Epson and I will remember.

ps. I have just recently decided to give 100% to learning photography, but the last three years I have been shooting events around Austin, Tx is you care to look and see some of Austin ... amateur now! http://www.visionsbykaren.com

I called and asked the epson store folks what to expect from a refurb and was told that 90% of them were brand new overstock sent back by major retailers and were essentially brand new, but for some legal reasons could not be sold as new. Sound a little suspect, but I'm hoping it's true. I thought that if it was unopened, it could be sold as new no matter if had been in a store or not.

Anyone have any info on this?

The fun has already started. I popped a few 11x14s to get things rolling, then moved back to 5x7 to dial the intensity in. I just now ran two 13x19, both of which are very good, but the second is excellent, if I do say so myownself. Colors are spot on and it's sharp as a tack (OK. That's a combination of me and Pentax, plus a printer that reproduces faithfully).

Now, if they had just included some prepaid labels with this one so I can ship the first one back... I was told they'd be in there, but it isn't so. Supposedly, I'll be reimbursed, but I think considering it is going to cost me $45 or so to ship this thing, I want a little more than a label blurb.
