Oly P1

Last Friday at PhotoShow in Milan, Italy

under 2000 Euro, body only

NOT Panasonic sensor, not sure a Foveon sensor but sure a Foveon-type sensor; not more information from Oly people

From what the local shop owner said Olympus told him at PMA was $2,000-2,500 is what they expect it to hit the shelfs at. I was honestly expecting allot more. He asked just for me :-D cause I told him before the beginning of the year to order one as soon as he could.

He said that the reason they were told for that price bracket it that the E-3 is aimed at D200, S5, D5 type of market cameras.

He said that he was told more, "but you know the NDAs" so he couldn't tell me. Not to sure about that, but who cares, I am sure that it we be a great camera.

It is often a case of the print would have been better from another camera. If you have the other camera, I guarantee it will then be a different lens.

Hello to all

When I was at PMA we talked about this and I was told around the same price as the D200 maybe lower. If it does what Olympus is hoping it may be the last camera I buy. So lets hope it works. Should be out around Sept. As for a Foveon sensor ???? Maybe, if they can get the sensor to do what they want. Could be a Panasonic sensor or it could be the new sensor where a Fuji and a Foveon are piggy backed. I really don't know much about this one, just something I read but it's support to help the Foveon work better, it can also be piggy backed with other sensors for better results. We'll see.

Have fun

supply will be very short for 6 months
maybe after 9 months it will come down some
production is to be capped the first year from what ive seen
that will keep the price pumped via supply v/s demand
Give it a month or 2 and it will street at ~$1600 or less. At
least that's what I'm hoping.

Are we sure that the P1 is going to be released? Haven't heard anything for a while on news / dates / announcements.

As for price, I would have thought to stand a chance of winning over anyone other than existing Oly users it will need to compete with D200 / S5 Pro on price.

I don't think so. The reason is that Oly has some superlative glass available in this system and making it all stabilized with this new body makes the camera worth a premium price. I'm just glad Oly is finally building the farking thing. I'll figure out a way to afford it if it's good.

i havnt heard any deviation from the august release point offered

they may not know themselves until 510 is on the road
it seems its a phased rollout, which is a sensible solution resource wise
but it will depend on a relatively trouble free rollout of 410/510
i hope that makes sense

Hmm.... D200 is selling for around $1,350 right now (body only). If they do a kit with the 50-200mm SWD for

I'm looking to replace my E-20. I love the feel of it, but wish it (as well as the FL-40) was a little faster. I use it mostly for events (weddings, etc..) , non-professionally, but I still miss alot of shots while waiting for the buffers to clear and the flash to recharge. If I have time to set up the shot, no problem, but I'm looking for something a little faster in both those departments, and after handling a Cannon 30D and being driven nuts by the front option wheel, realized that the ergonomics of the Oly E-500 and even my E-20 are much better. I haven't handled an E-1, but it's enough to make me wait to see the E-510 and P1/E3 before committing to a new system. The only things I'd like to have on the 510 are the weatherproofing (don't need it, but it would be nice) and a 5fps shooting speed (I believe it's going to be 3fps?) If there's something I don't like about the P1/E3, or it's just too expensive, I may start with the E-510 body and an SWD lens or two so I'm in a position to upgrade the body in a few years.

Speaking of SWD, does anyone know if the SWD will be any benefit at all on the 510, or is it meant as a feature that will only work with the P1/E3?

Whenever the next E body comes out, the only guarantee is that there will be moaning and groaning all over this forum about "Too Little, Too Late."

Ingrates we are.

MSRP $3,295.00
Hey MilSuper!

So, $3,295.00 huh? Damn, I was hoping for $3,395. Now what am I going to do with that extra $100 in my wallet?

its ok Lee, it will work on either, even older bodies
this because its a faster focussing motor, that is fitted inside the lens

All Canon cameras benefit from the ring-type USM motor compared to other types of in-lens motors. I suspect all Oly cameras will benefit to some extent from the SWD motor, but that the E-1P will have new AF electronics to make it really sing.

What's Canon going to do if Olympus takes all of those motors?

8-)
