i know this is pretty simple but it was the first shot i took,(and this is the first real camera i have ever had the pleasure to use!) and for some reason i just love it!(though daughter wasnt keen when shown at 100%!!)

i had to shrink this to 300k as my upload site limits the size, how do you get around that? this was 3.3 mb so a lot smaller.

i notice when i used the zoom on the "preview" it looks blurred, when, in the actual pic, at 100% you can see all the pores and hairs on her skin! i guess this is because shrinking it decreases the pixels???? scuse my ignorance but im a keen student!

You are a natural! Have fun. (I haven't even figured out how to post images to the forum yet, so you are way ahead of me).

Thanks for sharing,

I think your first shot looks good. Skin tones and exposure look really nice.

Enjoy...but your daughters will get tired of being the model for camera experiments soon!

What a terrific first shot! Your daughter is lovely and you got it just right with the exposure. I hope you will love the FZ8 as much as I do, it's a great little camera and should be perfect for learning with, which is also what I'm trying to do.

Have fun! :)

do you have a server you upload to?

just paste the shortcut in (then push preview to check it) and wala!

(i had no idea, i just tried it! LOL!!)

thanks heaps,
have a good one, joX

Beautiful picture! I tell ya, I could try and take pictures of people for days and never get a pretty portrait like that.

As for uploading photos, Im new here but you should be able to link from a free photo storage account like photobucket.com .

Really nice first picture. You shouldn't worry about 300K you wouldn't want to post nMB pictures because they would take so long to open. Size ie dimensions might be an issue because it would be nice to see it a bit bigger so you do probaly need to understand whether your hoster lets you display bigger images.

The picture you have posted is 46 kB. Hence you can easily post pictures of resolution 800x600 without hitting the ceiling 300 kB. If you want to show the detail that is present at 100% viewing, post some 100% crops.

File size can vary a great deal with the quality of JPEG saves. The program you have used to resize this photo probably allows you to set that quality as a percentage. The quality you are using at present seems to be around 80%, which is fine.

Beautiful girl, and very nice capture. Which site do you use for uploading your pictures? There are a few free sites such as Flickr that let you upload larger files. The site I use isn't free, but is unlimited in size or number. Dave

Hi magpie5,

When you have opened your picture goto Image/Resize/Image Size/ tick Constrain Proportions, now change the Width pixels down to eather 1024 or 800 the Height will Auto config to the correct size, so if you place 1024 in the Width the Height will end up as 768, if you place 800 in Width the Height will end up as 600, 1024x768 or 800x600 just nice to view on the forum, when you hit the OK botton it will resize to what you changed it to, now goto File/Save As/ Change the file name so it will not overwrite the Original file, Change the Format to JPEG and if you want the EXIF to carry over with the file tick ICC Profile, press Save, the next popup box just move the bar and look at the file size at the bottom it will change size when moving the bar, press OK when you hit the size you want.
