Hi Guys.

Is there any difference between the American Rebel XTi and the Asian Pacific 400D? Differences like PAL or NTSC?

The reason I am asking is that I live in Australia where they sell the 400D and I am going to New York in 2 weeks and I believe the Canon is cheaper there. I am just worried that there might be a difference in the actual camera...

Thanks in advance.

So in other words, it would not be worth my while buying the 400D in the US for use in Australia or Europe?

Regards.

DapperDavo.

US purchased cameras will have warranties honored in the US and those purchased elsewhere have warranties which are effective outside the US. If you buy one in the US it is my understanding that it will have to be sent to the US for warranty service. Whether Canon will ship it back to an overseas address is not known to me.

There is not difference at all between a 400D and a Digital Rebel XTi. However, USA electrical grid is 120v/60Hz while many other countries (including Australia) use 220v/50Hz, and the plug configuration varies. I don't know if the charger packed with the USA camera will work for you. It may.

battery charger is dual voltage.
110v-240v AC 50/60Hz

So it will work world wide with just a cheap plug adapter.

i happen to remember an NTSC/PAL option somewhere in my american rebel XT's menu...or am i just confused?

Not dual voltage .. input = any mains voltage between 100V~ and 240V~ autoregulating

I would suggest you go to a local store look at the camera and the warranty to see if it's US based warranty or not and also look at the price.

It should be lots cheaper to pick one up at B&H in NYC. Also look at some lens and while you are at look at CF memory.

Canada and the US are both NTSC but the US has the 400D and Canada
the XTi. I think they're identical.
US has the XTi, not the 400D. I think all of North America has the XTi.

I'm from New Zealand & got one from Best Buy last year when I was in the states.

The issues are
  • Warranty as covered
  • Charger plug, you need a Oz-> US adapter
I'm not sure about the prices in Oz, but over here they were actually not to far off, once you added GST in, with the local warranty I am not sure I would have got the camera in the US had I known the price they were going to offer it in NZ ( I bought it just after launch )

One thing to consider is getting the BG-E3 battery grip whilst you are in the states & a spare battery.

P.S. Make sure you get to B&H it's an awesome spot, if deadly on credit cards.

Per the instruction book that comes with the xti, the charger will work for both US and Euro outlets, you just have to get the proper plug adaptor.
