I bought the F30 mainly for underwater snapshots but it didn't get wet yet. Currently I experiment a bit to get used to the settings and it's effects. Here are some snapshots from a local Blues club.

All shots are with ISO 1600, Manual mode, EV -1, Auto WB, no flash, Average metering and High Speed turned on.

There are more shots on my website:

Note that this is the only gallery with F30 pics, yet. The other photos were taken with the Canon 5D and the older ones with the D60.

If you like Etta James and Janis Joplin then do yourself a favor and watch the video (9min) filmed with the F30. I have recorded 4 songs, loaded the 4 AVI files (about 900MB) into Nero Vision Express 3 (it was the only tool available, I did not choose this one for a specific reason) and the trimmed the video sequences, added a title and saved the whole thing as MPEG-1 file (94MB). I uploaded this file to YouTube where it got further compressed to a 21MB FLV file. It's still the best way to share such videos on the web. Here is the direct link to the YouTube site:

Below you can see the quality loss, left is YouTube and right is the 94MB MPEG-1 file. The sound quality is nearly the same.

nice job of youtubing it.

did you resize it when you saved from nerovision as mpeg1? or did you upload it to youtube as 640x480?

I like blues music very much.Thank you for the lovely clip.
Would you mind providing a link to the uncompressed video?

Best regards,

Piotr

Very nice band shots. I answered a thread about using the F20/30 for concert shots. I said you could, but a DSLR guy writes back and says that the small sensor P&S could never work and that all you would get would be streaks of light.
So I posted some of my band shots and he never replied...

Thanks for posting these "streaks of light" to add to evidence of successful concert shots.

I have read the thread. He even suggets to use an analog SLR with high ISO film and a f/1.4 lens. That is simply nonsense IMHO. Especially if the pics should be used on the band's website as the original poster wrote.

The F30 is my first P&S so I cannot compare it to other cams in that class. It may be true that you get long exposure times if it is not a Fuji SuperCCD. :-) For example the first pic was taken at 1/60" @ f/2.8 and ISO 1600. If your max. ISO is 400 the exposure time would have been 1/15" which is too slow to stop movement. I.S. is usually not a solution here since it does not slow down the performer. You just get sharp backgrounds. :-)

You're welcome.

The uncompressed AVI files are 900MB! I exported the video also to
a Video DVD which resulted in 360MB. Can you provide a space where
I can upload such a huge file?
This is not very dificult at this time. You can try to use webhoster for example http://rapidshare.com/ or http://www.rapidshare.de/

You may use hjsplit program ( http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/ ) ( or .rar or .zip format) for split files for about 98MB size.

When your file are upload then site http://rapidshare.com/ give you "Your Download-Link" to this file. You may silmple put links on this thread for share all files.
The blues have great emotional resonance.

Piotr

Peter,

Very nice captures and I enjoyed the video. Interesting mix of influence in the sound and the obvious enjoyment of the band performing their music does enhance the listening experience. Tks for sharing.

Hi Pedro,

Although it's a bit difficult to tell at these sizes, these photos seem to have turned out well. You and your camera are obviously a good combination! :-)

Hope you show us some of your underwater shots when you finally take the plunge. [er, sorry... ;-) ]
Cheers,
Nionyn

Yes, we were friends from day #1. :-)

It may sound funny but it really is important that "like" your camera, that may be due to the design, the interface, the technical specs or simply the results. In my case, I read so much about this camera on the web that it was like meeting a good old friend when I first held it my hands. :-)

Sure I will. First come a few test shots in the pool before I take it to the Caribbean in May...
