Hensel trigger issues

I want to know if other Hensel monolight users are experiencing trouble free operation of their radio trigger.

I've recently bought a kit with 2x500 and 1x250 monolights and having intermittant problems where the key light (channel 1) doesnt fire. When I try to replicate the problem I can't, then I have a shoot in the studio or on location and it comes up.
Check this link for a recent shoot to see the frequency of missfires

I've contacted my dealer for a response but want to hear from others out there.

I bought the Hensels because of the radio trigger and their good reputation - its very frustrating.

Cheers, Dean

I used to have a different problem. My lights didn't fire at all sometimes. I was right there - 3 feet away and they wouldn't fire. Then everything works fine. One more thing that i really hated about hensels was their power cords and how they were attached to monolights (everytime i tripped the cord slightly it would just turn the light off - I guess contacts were not fitted properly). SO... I made this decision of getting rid of them. Picked up profoto acute and never looked back.

all of them didn't fire. Then they would start working again. It was really weird. (nothing changed - shutter speed, aperture were the same).

I have the Integra Kit and emailed Hensel technical support on this issue. They say that you must be 7 ft. away from the monolight. Seems strange, but it does indeed work. The technical support email address is available on Hensel USA website (and Hensel Europe) in case you'd like to inquire further into this matter. They emailed me back right away and were most helpful.

My only complaint is that the user manual is rather cryptic. But I don't have any misfires.

I will be majorly annoyed if in fact this 7ft thing applies. I've got a small studio and nothing was mentioned when I bought them.
I'll do some homework with Hensel myself.

This is what technical support for Hensel USA told me after I wrote him regarding a few misfires. I find in practice I rarely am 7ft away from my main light. I keep the transmitter switched to ALL, and usually am about 4-5 ft from the main light and I haven't had any misfires.

If you are in a small studio there are ways to get around it by placing the main light as far from the transmitter/camera as possisble and if you want the fill light closer you could always set it to slave.

Good luck,

I just received this email from my dealer:

"I have just heard from Hensel and they have sent some new transmitters to us, because apparantly they have discovered a minor voltage problem which they have rectified. Please send the other transmitter back. Even if this transmitter works, when the ones from Germany arrive I will send you the newer modified transmitter. That should solve the problems."

Not sure if it will fix the problem but I really hope so. I will post again here once I have the transmitter to see if worked.

I have been using my transmitter for nearly 18 months now. I am
often less than a foot from the head (beauty dish right above me)
and have had no problems. The 7 foot thing sounds a bit weird to me.

I agree 100% that the 7ft distance is strange. What if you want the main light right above the camera like in a butterfly lighting scenario? When the tech support guy from Hensel told me that, I thought "No way".

I am hardly ever 7ft from the main light and the remote works fine. Maybe 1 out of 100 shots I get a misfire with one of the lights.

Dean, I am happy about the news about the new transmitter.
