Best Smartmedia Manufacturer

To tell you the truth, IMHO. I think all SmartMedia comes from the same sweatshop somewhere in the far east...right next to the sweatshop that produces all the "AA" NiMh batteries...I've yet to notice an appreciable difference with any of my different brands of batteries nor the 3 different brands of SMcards I have...Although I have had problems with my Oly 128mb card that hasn't seemed to happen with any of the other caeds I've used...For this reason I'll be buying with price as the determining factor...www . newegg.com seems to have the cheapest price on cards which alot of people have been buying for the past few months and I haven't heard any real complaints...
Simply put, who makes the best and most reliable?

I think just about all the SM cards are made by either Samsung or Toshiba and like Ergo said, all the sweat shops are right there together. Other companies buy them in bulk and put their name on them.

That is correct. They are all virtually identical. The camera and periphial manufacturers would like you to think otherwise.

Olympus went out of their way to make sure that only genuine OLY smartmedia cards would support the panorama function. I am certain this was designed to make mr. less-than-savvy consumer think

"gee whiz, the olympus storage media must be better"

or

"I better stick with the olympus stroage media"

Then Olympus gives you camedia master 2.5, virtually useless. It does two things nicely:

1- prints proof sheets (with EXIF data) very easily
2- does a fantastic job stiching images together (panarama)

So I stich together images stored on my generic smartmedia card using olympus software. I'm not sure I'm wording this right, but this seems ironic..

sorry, different rant..

I have been in the electronics service industry my entire life and I assure you that all consumer electronic devices are required to meet the same standard, which, by the way, is a pretty low standard. SmartMedia cards are all the same. Don't believe the hype.

The smart media cards its actually like the memory modules , in the factories is always possible due a problem of one production line some cards to be bad , the bad cards called B quality , and there is many no name brands , that actually buy this stuff in a very low price .

The cards that is supplied by known brands have past one more quality control check at list , plus they are following some high manufacturing standards .

But this is not all about , the quality and the speed of the modules is another factor too , I guess that every ones like to have one fast 128Megs media card than a slow one .

In praxis ,if some one likes to find out the real speed and specks of the smart media cards , you must to search and find the technical specs of its one .
Personally I am planning to get cards from the Lexar brand .
