Hey guys, i'm looking into investing into my first SLR, and i'm very close to getting the Nikon D80. Just wanted some feedback on where might be the best place to purchase one...and if ebay is a good place for that. They seem to have some decent packages like this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ ... ....dll?ViewItem&item=110102980940&fromMakeTrack=true
Thanks guys!

I know i was looking for a upgrade, but i found the D80 didnt fit my budjet. So i went to a store called Carsand Mosher and they had the D80 with 18-135 mm lens for 8 ( hundred ) somthing, i find thats a good price.

Were they running a special? The price on their web page is $1439.95 Canadian...Keep in mind too that Canadian products are not warranted by NikonUSA.

No i know the site is wrong,i guess they dont update anymore that much.I went to the store and the sales guy told me it was that price. i just emailed a friend about it to see if it was right. (he works there)

I have always found eBay to be on the expensive side. I see people buying used lenses for the same price if not more than the imported version from B&H and sometimes the same amount as the USA version. Unless the product is from an actual Nikon retailer you will not have a warranty anyways. Regardless if it is gray market or not for either camera lenses or bodies.

so i called carsand mosher and the guy really got the price wrong its 1099.99 for the body, with the 18-70 its 1499.99 and with 18-135 its 1439.99.

i dont know what the guy put it but he gave me the wrong price.

Please, please, consider buying your camera from a local brick and motor store. The small diff in price is going to be well worth the effort. They will help you with any problems. If you have a question, just go down and ask them ... same with same or big problems. WHAT is the web site going to do ?? Maybe, if they are good, give you the address of a Nikon service center, where you can send the camera. Questions ? forget it... I realize everyone, me included, wants to save $ on expensive cameras. BUT the purchase price is only about 1/2 of what you'll likely spend on that camera over its life, maybe less. Don't worry about a small difference, buy a camera from a store. Not Best Buy either... find a mom and pop store. They'll likely stand on their heads to make things work for you !! You'll be helping your local economy too !!

I tend to concur with this statement. If you feel you must purchase online to save a few bucks (I will do this just to keep from paying sales tax alone) then find yourself a reputable dealer and give them your business.

Might I suggest a few-
B&H
J&R
Vann's
OneCall

IMHO, there are precious few "true deals" on new camera gear at eBay. For used gear, I think eBay is a decent option.
