I went to my local camera shop to grab a lowepro 200 slingshot bag. they only carry canon cameras and lenses, and the owner there is a good guy, but I had my D200 with me and he said, 'let me show you why canon is better than nikon'

oh no, here we go... long story short all he was doing was showing and telling technical specs, etc...

I told him that all great but tech specs mean nothing to me if my pics don't look good. i told him it's not all about being 'technically superior', it's about the end result. we shoot pictures to captures moments and not worry about what computer chip is doing what in my camera. after all that he just kinda nodded and said yeah... then i left. he even asked me how much i have invested in nikon, like what lenses, etc. obviously since he's a canon shop he'd like to see me buy all canon stuff...

i hate when people only debate with technical specs...

if he added Nikons he would say there is no difference.

he could sell Nikon if he only did it to pay the rent. I agree with the OP, just use what gets the best results. I put tape over the Nikon badge of my D70 & D2H so I dont get hassled about what body I use. I just say, it's digital, go check out my page.

Who cares if it's nikon, canon, sigma, olympus or whatever. Digital sells. Look at BB, CC, Wolf, B&H, I mean, come on. Canon VS Nikon is like Toyota VS Honda. They will BOTH sell, it's all personal as to which is better and is more profitable.

Yep.

I'm gonna cover my Nikon badge with that fine old East German brand,

Praktica!

Come to think of it, the "BC-1" was Electronic.

No heart. Does not understand the soal of photography.

Did he delineate how all that technical mumbo-jumbo could get him a better picture of his cat?

A camera is just a tool.
. . . And I couldn't wait forever.

An axe is just a tool, I'm glad my surgeon uses a scalpel when appropriate.

For me the right tool is a Nikon most of the time. When the light is bad and I need a high shutter speed, the Canon is the better tool. No great big deal, diiferent brands, different tools.

And that is why I like Canoga Camera in Canoga California. Most of the guys there shoot with Canons and they have NEVER bashed on Nikon or tried to get me to switch. My buddy shoots with a Canon and even we we go down there - never is there any camera bashing. Oh - and the only reason I know what they shoot is because I asked them. The way they were helping me with my Nikon stuff you would have thought they were Nikon guys.

I totally agree with your tube amp vs solid state example.

Nothing, hands down, can touch anything tube driven. Let me see a solid state that can push a pair of floor standing or bookshelves with 0.5 watts the way a pocket tube amp can! Let alone a true multi-tube amp.

L-O-V-E the example, as a young, 25 year old fan boy of tube circutry & old tube guitar amps...

But yeah, also great comparision to modern day technology. Another good one would have been P&S 12mp VS Medium format body from the 50's....
