No new Pro90?

Sorry about that I hit the post button by mistake while editing my user profile. My other post has the PRO90IS dealer information.

KF--Ken F.

Hello Russell,

I purchased one for a present here in Vancouver two days ago at
Leo's Camera Supply for $999.00 Cdn. At the time they had a couple
more left in stock. You can call Jeff at Leo's 604-685-5331, they
are open Saturday and closed Sunday, Monday.
A very reputable dealer I have been buying my Leica gear from them
for over ten years, and my G2 of course! My friend loves the
PRO90IS by the way!

Ciao,
KF

Matt.
So, is this it? Does this mean no new Pro90 model. Should I just
take the leap on a current one? I know there were a few good deals
going around. Does anybody know of any at the moment?
I have on on the way from Toronto for $899 Canadian.
brian which store did you order it from in regina i called vistek
and they called canon and couln't get me. i would like to get one
if possible maybe 2 maybe you can get more of a deal by selling a
couple more for this guy?

thx russ
Don's photo, I,ll check with them tomorro & let you know. What did
Vistek say? is Canon clearing them out?
first i called the toronto store and they said canon did a price
drop and then when i called back after telling them that henrys and
blacks had not heard of it and couldn't match the price so i
ordered 1 they took the deposit and then called 2 days later to say
sorry couldn't get it. i called calgary store and they said they
had a couple so i ask for 2 - 1 for me 1 for my friend - fine and
great no problem have it to you by friday -- then they called back
2 hours later to say they couldn't get it either and that calgary
and toronto canonn warehouses were both out of stock and not
expecting any more. anyway i got a price from blacks saying the
lowest they would go is 1149 so if you can get it lower all the
power to you and hopefully me too ! - you can either post message
here or e-mail me [email protected]

thx
Well I'm not holding my breath, Don's said 4 were coming in expected Tues. They didnt show up & as of yesterday my contact couldnt get hold of the stores buyer in Winnipeg. So we dont know if they were shipped or what. I should find out tomorrow. If they dont show up I'll get a Nikon 995, they're

under 1000 now. I want those long lenses for the summer. (cant afford a D100 just yet) D60 looks good but I got all those Nikon lenses.

Mr. Jalapeno, your same comment surfaced in the Oly Forum, got
everyone stirred, then you vanished. What source substantiates your
bold statement?
With a name that is of a hot chilli, I thought it would be obvious.

Back to the subject.

Don't waste your time wishing................another Pro 90 type by Canon wll never happen.

Digital SLR's will be an affordable reality in the near future, that is to say if you could afford a Pro 90 when they were new, you will be able to afford a D SLR soon.
The Pro 90's current price reduction is making it a very value packed camera.

I just wish I had more $ like everyone else and could afford one to go along with my G2.

BUT my end wish is a D SLR so I can exchange lenses and have a manual focus ring and and and and........

But well, I'm rather sure that there are people who rather have a digicam like Pro90 or Dimage 7 or whatever that is pretty much SLR-like, but has a nice lens in itself so that there is no need to buy additional lenses. That, of course, makes the cam cheaper and also IMO easier to use.

Also, if Canon isn't going to announce a successor to the Pro90, they're going to leave that market totally to the rivals like F707, D7 or the new Fuji.

Define Affordable. Define near future.
The only reason people are looking at the P90 is that its price reduction has made it an affordable option for the aveage user.
The reason it didn't sell well origionally was it's cost against a low MP count.
Consumers couldn't see past the MP issues when the G1 offered 3MP.
  1. Afforbable D SLR is one around the price of the P90 when it first was put on the market.
Big sensors are not suddenly cheaper. Large area Silicon is very
expensive and that shows no sign of changing.

The only hope for Affordable SLRs is to make a smaller one IMO.
True, but the benefits of such an adjustable camera are endless.

I wish Canon could have kept the D30, at a reasonable price $1000-1200 US as a next step camera from the G series.

The D30 and the D60 should cost a very similar amount to produce. They they could make money on a $1200 D30 they could make money on a $1200 D60. The sensor size is what drives cost, and that size is the same.

I can't believe that Canon would abandon their 10x lens. It is a unique feature and advantage. It would be a shame to see it disappear.

However, the Olympus C-2100, which, I understand, used the Canon 10x lens has been discontinued without a replacement.

I guess we will wait and see.
At the same time, Pro90 prices have dropped significantly so it
might be a good time to pick up a great camera at a good price. The
risk of buying a camera that will be superceded in a matter of days
just went down.

I don't have a problem with 2.6 MP versus 4 MP since for anything
under an 8x10 there doesn't seem to be much of a difference.
Although there were other features of the G2 engine that I had
hoped would be adopted in the new Pro90.

I still believe its a competitive model, it gives good 10x8 prints
on a good inkjet, and with the addition of a B-300 teleconverter,
gets you closer to the action than anything else out there!

You wont be dissapointed, unless the Pro digital SLRs crash in
price in the near future, and I cant see that happening!

Remember, the show isn't over and a good poker player never shows
all of his cards....so, stay tuned...that Pro90 may still be out
there.

Just thought I would throw this in since you mentioned the Nikon
995. You can get it for $479 from http://www.buydig.com . Everyone
who has ordered a camera from there has said good things about them
also.

thanks, but I'm in Canada where the best price Iv seen is $919cnd.
I'll still take a P90 if they show up in the next couple of days, but if not, well

my local dealer has 995 & tc lenses on the shelf & will match any Canadian on-line price.
