Some unusual poses -H5

John, these are terrific in composition and detail. I especially like how clearly we can see the talons in the last photo.

I was delighted to hear that we have a pair of eagles nesting in the neighborhood. I have been eyeing the empty nest all winter long, not knowing if it was an eagle's nest or an osprey, but I have been told that there is definite eagle activity now. I will try to get there over the weekend to see for myself.

Glad you have what may be an eagle's nest close to you.
You should be able to ID it very fast, it will be huge 3-4 feet across.
Ospreys build very near lakes or rivers, and is much smaller.
Let me know where you are located in BC.

Watch for an eagle in the nest and not leaving it for days, this means you have eggs and soon babies.
Good luck.

If you are always telling the truth, you don't have to remember what you said.

love the attitude of these birds :)
lucky to be able to shoot them so well.

Did you change WB or something? i find that the 1 and 4 are green/yellow and the 2 and 3 blueish? I prefer the first tone for the animals but it makes the branches look quite bad. Maybe there could be some PP to limit the CA or whatever stuff on the branches?

anyway great pics...

-commenting my pics? : Everything is welcome, including one word comments, bad critics and so on. :)
-displaying my pics? : please warn me and put a link to my site.

-editing my pics? : that's ok if you want to suggest some modification (only for use in the original thread).

All shots were taken with the same settings, however I did use different PP i think the greener ones were where I used the PFree Filter.

The original shots had quite a lot of PF and I tried a couple of ways to eliminate it.
This always happens when i shoot up into the tree on a dark rainy day.
Still we can't win them all.

You keep in your yard to attract such wildlife?

Just don't show them on a spit, and I'll be happy staring at your Eagle shots all day!

Hi John,

Excellent examples of such a magnificent bird......I have to agree with Nico that the CA/PF is very distracting to an otherwise brilliant shot...

I hope you dont mind, but I took the liberty to try my hand at eliminating it...However I could not regain full saturation as I think the files are too small....
See what you think....I dont mind if you hate my efforts...

Also....have you tried setting all your in camera options....Sat, Cont, and Sharp, to low..... This may help in these conditions

Yet again. After a winter in the city I'll be going up to see out nesting eagles this weekend, who the DEP keeps at least 350 feet away from us. After attaching a variety of bazookas to my cameras, I'll sift through and finds the ones that actually resemble an eagle at that distance, come back to the city, logon and see your pix again and feel very inadequate. Thanks again, LOL.

Seriously your shots are so great the eagles should be giving you a commission for these "family" portraits.
Regards,
Kurt

Wonderful images, John!

Have you given them names yet?

John: GREAT SHOTS!!! I wish we had birds like these around in my country (we just have grey pigeons).

Rik: WOW! The one thing that bothered me in John's shots was the quite present PF/CA or whatever to call it. How did you get rid of it so effectively?

Great pictures John.

Well done Nico. I didn't want to say anything about the fringing because I am no expert but I think your adjustments have definitely improved them.
