Advice please

Want to haul D-30 w/20-35mm or 28-135mm lens attached and enough room to carry a 70-200 along too. In other words camera w/lens and 2 other lenses in the bag.

I know there are only hundreds of bags to choose from, but anybody carrying a similar load -what do you use?

Thanks in [email protected]

Try the J-1 or J-2. The J-1 will let you keep the 70-200 on the camera, stored vertically, with room for a few more lenses, flash, charger, cables, etc.

Where's your head David so we can butt heads again. LOL. I say Canon Professional 1EG bag. Better material and better protection than the Domke. (sorry David just couldn't let it go) LOL. Also only $75.00 NEW.

I'm heading off for PMA tomorrow with the following in my Bob Krist bag. A laptop with 14" screen; a D30 Body with grip; a 100-400 lens; a 100mm f. 2.8 macro lens; a 50mm 1.8 lens. (There's room for another lens) And lots of doo-dads. Only negative? Weighs a ton, and any thief would hit the jackpot.

I knew somebody would bring up the Bob Krist bag. ;)

One day, I'd like to have one side by side with my Domke J-1 to compare.

Tamrac also has a nice bag similar to the J-1, but it's not quite as wide, and won't hold quite as much (especially in the side pockets). You'd be hard-pressed in that particular bag to carry the D-30, 3 or 4 lenses, a flash, and the battery/charger.

How easy is that Bob Krist bag to work out of? That's the one great thing about the Domke. Very easy to grab stuff out of it. That's the whole point of it's design.

Tomorrow will actually be my first trip into the field with it. After I dump the laptop in the hotel safe I'll have room to put the lens on the body. I'm also taking a holster case along for the actual trade show. I think I'll just use my 50mm 1.8 inside the convention center. I can't see the use of a tele in that venue. The thing that makes the Bob Krist stand out is fitting nicely in airplane spaces and being able to backpack it. It may be as much of a travel bag as a field bag. We'll see.

I think the two bags hold about the same amount of stuff. The Domke has optional backpack straps for those long hauls, too. And it fits on airplanes! whew.

The Krist bag probably looks less like a camera bag. The Domke F-7 looks like an old beat-up bag that nobody'd want. Unfortunately, it doesn't weather seal as nicely as the J-1. The J-1 looks more like a camera bag simply because it's black, IMO. Wish they'd made it in tan.

The Krist bag looks like it'd double much better than the Domke as some other sort of bag, that's for sure.

The Krist bag also has backpack straps that fold away and are usually hidden

The Krist bag looks expensive- something everyone would want :-(

I use a Jansport 3 section college style backpack. I've had it for 8 years now and the straps are still comfortable My load usually consists of a D30/grip with the 28-70/2.8L mounted, 70-200/2.8L, 17/3.5 Tokina, 550ex, 4 NMhi AA's in a very compact Sanyo charger, as well as various othe odds and ends like food or what ever else I might need.

It never says;

"look at all my camera gear... plese come rip me off."

It's easy to get into and it stays out of your way help properly on your back with two straps instead of a bunch of weight on one shoulder which really isn't good for your back.

The other great thing - it cost less than $40.
