D7 included NIMH??? Did I get jipped?

When I got my D7 two weeks ago....I noticed the batteries that came with it were 1300 mah. I didn't think alot of it...but now I'm reading reports that alot of people are getting 1500 or 1600 mah batteries with their D7.

Is this the standard? It's not a real big deal...I can use them in the flash...because I won't even bother using the 1300's in the camera....but 1500 or 1600 mah's would be more useful....

I got none, but I bought back in July before they started doing that. Are you sure that you got the USA kit (assuming that you are in the USA)? Bryan

I bought my d7 in uk about a month ago and it came with Energiser 1600mAh NiMH batteries and a timer charger (slow though - needed 24 hrs at least to fully charge rather than the 15hrs recommended). I don't think it was a dealer special as they stocked a different make of chargers and batteries.

Oh, it's the USA kit. I got it from B&H. The batteries & Charger were in a small white box, labeled "Compliments of Minolta USA". Had the Quest slow charger, with 4 AA's inside...but they were 1300mah...not the 15 or 1600's that others are reporting....

I also ordered from B&H and got 1300 ma nimh quest batteries in a white box as you mentioned.

I though I will use it in flash or elsewhere. Already bought 2 sets 1800 ma PowerEX.

The D7 I received on Wednesday arrived with 4 1600 mah quest batteries and the standard charger [as well as 4 alkalines that lasted for about...4 shots.]

Got my D7 yesterday with the 1600's and the Alkaline which lasted me about 25 shots.

Just an FYI as stated in another post here. I spoke with a service tech at Minolta and she stated that the new QUEST batteries shipped with the units should be charged the first time longer than recommended by 6-8 hrs. Also it will take about 3 Charge/discharge cycles until the batteries reach their full level capacity.

TIP: Always label your batteries as a set and make sure you dont mix them when charging or using them. Example: 4 - SET A another 4 - SET B And dont touch the ends of them, oils from your hands will give you a lesser connection.

All of the D7s that my buddy at Harmon camera has gotten for the last several mos came with 1600MAH and a charger. (Sorry didn't notice wgat charger)

Hi everybody,

I had to buy my Quest Charger KIT in Canada at an upscale dealer. Further enquiries regarding FREE rechargers revealed different practices, in my experience. Some guys over here got their Quest Premium Gold S2 Kit (the one I had to buy) Free. It consists of 1. A 110V AC adapter and cord, 2. The charger which can charge any combination of AA and/or AAA, at any time , from ONE to Four batteries at the same time. The compartments charge individually. 3. Four Quest Gold 1600mAh AAs, 4. A car (12v DC) adapter cord, AND 5. Two carrying containers, each holding 2 AAs. Also Minolta has an arrangement with each reseller a different arrangement in relation to complimentary charger kits. Some of the smaller resellers are more likely to get from Minolta complimentary free kits but they might not be all the same. There is a smaller Quest charger kit which comes with 2 batteries ?1600 mAh, and the least number for same time charging is TWO batteries. The Premium Gold S2 kit is very good in my very short experience, since I am unable to find locally any Maha, RayOVac or other brands, with the exception of Radio Shacks own and they also have the "smaller" chargers which are not as efficient.

Hope this might assist some of you still looking for Charger kits. Oh forgot Energiser was retailing 1600 mAh AAs, but recently came out, over here with AAs labelled 1700mAh ! Am unable to tell the difference in practical terms. ?Marketing ??? Ray.

I got my D7 from Ritzcamera.com. It came with the quest charger and four 1600s.

Mine came with alkalines. So, any NiMh and charger of any capacity is a bonus! And even if you go buy a mid-grade charger and a set of batteries, it isn't big bucks. A nice little Maha charger from Thomas Distributing runs about $11 and about the same for four decent - although not top drawer - cells. Not the worst expense after $800-1000 for the camera. The highly rated Rayovac 1 hr (!!) charger costs $30 at Wally-Mart and lesss than $11 for each set of 1600mah cells. Those 1600's are rated as equal to the 1700 & 1800's from other mfgs on http://www.imaging-resource.com (Did I get that right?)

I got mine from B&H, and it came with the cheaper Quest 1300's and the 'slow' charger. I played with it for two weeks, and the batteries weren't worth a d* n. I called MinoltaUSA (they weren't surprised) and told them I didn't like the batteries...they sent me four 1600 Quest batteries, and the new Quest quick charger, with the individual charging circuits for each battery, no charge, just replacement. Oh....I'm good in the battery dept. I have 2 sets of Maha 1600's, a Maha 204F charger, and another 3 sets of Maha 1800's on the way.

I was basically concerned that I got less than what other people are reportedly getting in their package. The 1300's are worthless to use in the camera. I just read a couple of reports of different users getting different batteries in their camera, and I just wonder why the difference. Maybe Minolta has truckloads of batteries to dump off on someone...and that's why they're including them.

Based on someone else's suggestion...I think I'm gonna call Minolta and ***** about it. Can't hurt....

How long ago did you buy your camera? All the newer shipments of the camera are supposed to include the batteries and the charger. I got 4 alkalines with mine also...they went right in the battery drawer in the kitchen for use in my mini-mag light.

Mine came from Norman camera with 4 1300s. And I think a slow charger. Left the batteries and charger in the box and haven't looked back.

You are all lucky boys ;-)). Just received my D7 with ... AA batteries. Had to buy separatly the charger and the 1700 mAh. Have seen in a french magazine that 2000 mAh are available. Can somebody tell me the difference in time comparative to 1700 mAh ore less ??

What about the expensive EBP-100 (lithium) battery. Seems that it gives a 5 days ' life' to the camera.

And what about the price. In Belgium the D7 is sold 1.320$ ;-( (with aa batteries)

Yeap, same here. The 1600mAh cells are good as a last resort backup, but the charger is pretty useless. Actually, I can not remember where I keep it.

It is not good even as a backup charger. I use two AnsMann 6 chargers and even if both of them are busy it will be faster to wait for them to finish charging and then drop in another set, rather than using the charger included in the box at the same time.

Another reason I can not trust that charger for my cells is that although it says that there is switch somewhere for NiCd or NiMH cells, there doesn't seem to be one. Maybe the charger is only intended for NiCd cells. Who knows?

Anyway, I couldn't care less as I have only using it about three times, until I found a place to order my AnsManns in the UK.

Yes, that is really usefull, as all cells per set will have been equally used and you will not mix older/weaker cells with new ones.

Absolutely! Touching the ends will heat up your camera's grip and will not let you take as many photos. Well, according to MINOLTA they only recommend the use of at least 1600mAh rechargable NiMH cells with the camera. So, I think including 1300mAh cells while recommending otherwise is pretty dumb!
