I downloaded both and checked the EXIF info, both are shot Program, Evaluative, AWB with all settings "Normal" in fine/jpg, ISO 100, both @ 1/250 and either f/8 or f/9 (close enough) The D30 was shot with a 28-70 (assume Canon L?) and the D60 with 24-85. Take a look at 100% in PS and see what you think regarding color and sharpness.

I considered taking 100% crops and posting, but Dave has pretty explicit copyright statements, so rather avoid that issue.

The D-60 image takes twice as long to load. ;)

Can anybody PRINT these out at 8x10, and compare them?

No doubt, if this is real the D60 shows more detail and the color appears more realistic. Need more information though...come on PHil.......

I just printed out the D30 and D60 shot of the woman, also the D60 shot of the house, I believe the Far field test.

Prints were from a Pictrography 3500, 6.67x10. Printed through QImage Pro, MAX/MAX/Lanczos (used these parameters because that is what I usually use and I wanted to see how each faired in my normal workflow.)

The D30 was about 216ppi and the D60 about 307 ppi at 6.67x10. The lanczos interpolation put both at 400ppi for the Fuji output.

Here's what I see:

D30 - smooth colors, nice tones, I detect a small amount of moire/artifacts in the wood paneling to the right of her head. Nice typical D30 output (little too magenta for my tastes.)

D60 - Bold colors in the flowers, the detail in the hair is very impressive. No noise/artifacts/moire in the wood paneling to the right of her head. The blue sweater is much sharper and detailed in the D60 image. I can see the balls of fuzz much clearer than the D30. D60 might be a great group shot camera?

The D60, IMHO, really does a much better job at rendering fine detail. I notice it in the wood, the lady's hair, the blue sweater, and to some degree in the flower petals.

This is not scientific, but it's just my quick observations of the two.

But what really floored me was the picture of the house. WOW. It is stunning. The detail and clarity is amazing. Although it does seem to be blowing highlights out a bit, I am really impressed with what I see.

Although I have a few reservations about the camera, and will wait and see how things pan out, (really wanted a 1Ds) , if I were handed one right now and asked if I wanted to buy it, I'd say yes and fork over the dough.

Just my .02

The D30 seems too warm compared next to the D60 ... I'm sure the D60 siding is closer to "real" than the D30, not that I would have necessarily noticed without the D60 image right next to it.

I was afraid the D60 might be TOO sharp, weird as that sounds. I applied the same "standard" overall unsharp masking to both images ... the D60 was much more sensitive to being oversharpened and came out "digital" looking, IMO. But with more advanced technique, like UltraSharpenPro, the D60 came out much more to my liking. Time will tell.

Open the "D60" image in your web browzer.

It will clearly state: EOS 1D digital camera test image.

Is someone trying to pull a fast one!!!

It reads D-60 test image to me. Unless you are looking at something else.

He's right, you know - I saw it too. It says "D60" within and at the top of the window, but it also says "EOS1 D" in the blue band at the very top that identifies the window - That's the bit whereit normally says "Canon SLR Talk forum: digital Photography Review" in all forum threads.

I thought I would look for a smaple image for the EOD 1D and compare that too, but when I next selected an identical D30 image, it downloaded in what appeared to be 256 colours and I have no idea why. nor do I seem to be able to make it work in true colour. Argh!

Interestingly, if you try to use the image comparator, there is no mention of the D60 in the camera selection for any of the images, so there may be truth in the EOS 1D rumour - I was wondering how so many sample images were suddenly available for a camera that has only been announced for 1 day...

..I could be wrong (hope I am) but...
